ok so heres one thought for the day
do think that the g3's are made out of the same type of plastic/rubber as the g1's??
if so, then do you think in about 20 yrs all the g3's will start to develope patchy boding, smooze, and cancer? cries for the next generation of pony collectors.
also, do you think that the little girls of this generation will want to collect ponies when they hit, say their 20's?? seeing as kids today have so many toys to choose from. a new thing comes along everyday. do you think that ponies will hold enough of a special place in their hearts, enough to beat out all the other toys?
*tink*

I think my 5 year old daughter will collect ponies in her 20's...she loves them more than any other toy in the house. She also has a mommy that loves horses and ponies, so I encourage it! I still have my breyer collection and she says she has her pony collection. And someday she will have them both.

Hmm, I don't think the plastic's exactly the same. I remember how ponies felt when I was little, and the new ones are a bit harder than I remember! Chances are they probably will mold and rust and come down with cancer, only the rust will be in their feet >_<

As for girls loving ponies in the future...it's hard to say. I'd like to think that they will because I do. I mean, admitted, I'm only 18, but I felt strongly enough to get my ponies out of the attic after they'd been up there for 10 years - I'm still apologizing to them for that - because I remembered loving them so much. So many of today's toys just don't have the charming innocence of our beloved ponies. I know that in the end the ponies will trample the Bratz!!

I think the plastics/vinyls that are used today are different than 20 years ago.

But I do think that the magnets will be an issue in the future, as they may rust more easily than anything else! I also see the tinsel as beeing a huge issue in the future.....because I think most ponies that are getting played with right now, will not be so pretty in the future with all that tinsel! ;)

As for whether the kids from today will collect and re-collect the ponies from their childhood......I'm not sure, it will be interesting to find out though! I think it will depend on a number of factors though. I think those kids with parents who collect also, or understand collecting, will be more apt to return to collecting later in life. Those kids that viewed MLP as just another simple play thing, likely not. (as I have many toys from my childhood that once I "outgrew" simply never went back to them, as they didn't hold a special meaning to me)

Those are my thoughts, anyway. :)

Well i'm hoping that the little girls i work with will want to collect when they get older lol. Maybe even the boys. Every week i take them in a baity pony to play with at playtime (i work in a school) and i tell them all about my collection. I even taught a lesson the other day on ponies and had the class on the dream valley website, so i'm hoping that they'll remember MLP's when they're older as a lot of them have them now (one girl brought in her G2's the other day so here's hoping)

I hadn't thought about the magent thing though. That could be a problem with rusting etc. Plus i know that some played with G3's i got from a large lot the other week had terrible tinsel problems.
