On Equestria Daily, it now states that ALL female MLP:FiM fans are called...

*Pause for effect*

Pegasisters.

Are you kidding me, Equestria Daily? Seriously? Why can't we just be bronies? And something as lame a pegasister? What?

I think pegasister is cute, but I prefer brony. Why we gotta discriminate :p?

Lmao! Wow! I dont like it at all...

I knew Sethisto (tangentially) from before EqDaily and FiM. He's always been a bit...eccentric? But the only thing that sets him apart from everyone else is that he latched onto a new infatuation that turned out to be popular, and put up a site fairly early on. So basically, his opinions and statements have no more weight than anyone else's, so you don't have to accept his opinions as anything more than just that.

Why do you have to have a name at all? Can't you just be "fans" or "collectors?"

Hear, hear! That's exactly how I feel about it. Why do people always have to have labels for everything and everyone?

Agree! Completely!

I'm sorry, but I always mentally think a 'brony' is a male pony fan then have to correct myself. Yes, my dears, I KNOW that a 'brony' can be male or female but I, personally, can't get past the 'bro' part of the name.

Naming oneself shows a particular pride in the group one is associated with. The world does not only have Bronies (and Pegasisters) in it - we have Texans and Packer Backers and Trekkies and Beliebers. I don't think that the names cause any harm, nor do I think that avoiding such names makes one less of a lover of a given topic.

When I think of the Brony/Pegasister term I think of a person who is primarily or particularly interested in G4. I came to this forum as a Pegasister; sure, I adored my ponies as a child - but I knew much more about the G4 world than anything else. I now consider myself a Pegasister and a light collector/restorer.

...and proud of it. :)

I will NEVER be a pegasister... LAME! I've been a pony collector since the 80's... and I've passed that love onto my daughter. We're pony crazy, but we will never be pegasisters. I'm a MLP fan or a MLP collector. Come up with a cool name that shows a love of ALL things pony (not just pegasis ponies) and maybe I'll latch onto it... but pegasister is just laughable. :hysterical:

Agreed. If we made a list of all of the things Equestria Daily 'failed' at - well, we'd be here all night. I just file this 'pegasister' business away under that heading, and don't worry about it too much.

I wish EqD would stop setting itself up as having some kind of 'position of authority' in the fandom, when in reality it's just a personal blog. Professional blogs, for example, wouldn't post half of the ridiculous things EqD does. Sethisto's incredibly creepy 'Twixie' fixation, anyone?

Seriously? Wow. I have lost my faith in humanity. No, not really- it's just..yeah.
As for bronies and pegasisters, those terms will never apply to me although I did see your point MLL, with the Trekkie comparison. However, as I'm not really a fan of the FiM show so I really don't want to be grouped in with the FiM fans. Not that there is anything wrong with that group at all! I've just been collecting far longer and I tend to think that FiM is going to be a fad for a large number of people whereas long term pony fans and collectors are much more serious.

I have no desire to be either a brony or a pegasister.

Also, "Beliebers" is just . . . hrm. Well.

I've used these terms in the past when I started watching and liking the new show. I didn't really have any problems with it, but I think brony is a very gender based term. I think of the big brother ponies that were around in the 80s and think of it like that. Basically a male fan of my little pony.

But nowadays I try to stay away from both terms regarding MLP. I don't have anything against anyone if they use these terms, but I personally think people are just dividing between the sexes farther and farther away than they already are.

Personally i have no problem with either term. Despite having been a collector all my life, i'm more than happy to refer to myself as a brony as a way of showing i also like FiM. But as for the term pegasister, i have no problem with it :) It's been around for a good few months now and i've not had any problem with it at all :)

Why does this keep coming up? Dang, it seems to start a mini-flame war every time.:uhoh:

Forgot to add my own opinion, since I know everyone's just dying to hear it. :-D On the whole I'm rather neutral on "brony." It's an entertaining portmanteau that rolls off the tongue easily, and I do more or less fit the demographic...though with some of the more enthusiastic representatives out there I'm a little less likely to loudly advertise myself as one of that bunch. I'll continue to enjoy the show as one of my various interests, and I don't mind being called a brony, I just don't really feel a need to wave a flag about it.

Pegasister I don't personally care for though. It's long and cumbesome for one thing. For another, I don't really see any need to subdivide further--there's the target demographic (what was it, girls aged 3-11 I think?), and there are the fans outside that demographic; anything else just feels like it's unnecessarily complicating things. Plus on a more personal note it reminds me too much of a girl I knew in high school, Peggy, who went through a phase of insisting that everyone call her "Pegasus." Just...awkward.

But as Lofty said, labels like these are more about saying what things you like. You can label me a brony, gamer, Trekkie, nerd, geek, stylophile, clotheshorse, metalhead, musician, artist, horseman--I don't care, they all apply to some extent and none define me exclusively. But if you don't like being called a brony/pony/pegasister/whatever else, that's cool too.

Sethisto's incredibly creepy 'Twixie' fixation, anyone?
Which is tamer than his Cynder infatuation was, if you can believe it.

Yes. She's an adult pony, for crying out loud. I can see Apple Bwoom, but Twixie... no.

Ahaha, I think you have confused his creepy fixation for something slightly less off-putting. He is not calling Trixie 'Twixie' - Twixie is the nickname for the shipping of Trixie/Twilight.

Add that on to the fact that he posts borderline NSFW pony art in almost every art post, but gets all huffy if anyone submits anything non-lesbian or het? It's offensive. I'm surprised anyone takes him seriously.

You know, I'd heard rumors that he was the guy behind the constant "could you draw Cynder spooning with X/as a pony/whatever" requests, and it kind of makes a lot of sense, especially seeing his ... interest ... now. Sigh.
