I sometimes see people are selling a pony that I really want and is very rare, but it's MIB/MOC, and then I choose not to buy it. Why? Because I think I would not be able to resist the temptation and I'd open it!

If you got a super rare pony MOC/MIB would you open it?

OK OK adding examples for Lil Alley Cat.

How about... a Greek Lambaditsa since we've been talking about her...
Or a Mimic?
Or... a G3 Rosey Posey?
Or... a pony that there's only ONE known of, and it's yours?

That depends on what you mean by very rare. Examples please!

I would be so tempted to open them up! I mean, it is a toy, meant to be played with and have their hair brushed, and go on trips, and take bubble baths :D That's why I generally don't buy them, except G2's & G3's; and they are immediately deboxed! :) I guess I'm just a child at heart... I still can hardly wait to leave the store to open my toys!

Bagged Ponies...yes in a heartbeat. Those bags are annoying and ugly. Carded or boxed, no. I would love to start an MOC collection actually. I am just to broke yet.

Depends... if I lucked upon one at a garage sale or something, I would sell it. I want the $$$
But spending a lot of money on an MOC, and then opening it?
I couldn't do it. I know that would drastically devalue the pony, and I don't plan on having my collection forever.
Sorry if I sound like a terrible greedy person, but I would keep them MOC, so I could resell it someday.
Most of my MIB/MOC ponies have a loose double for this reason.

No, I would not. I've only owned one MOC and it was the gem of my collection. I love the artwork on the Vintage G1 packaging and enjoy looking at it anyways. Plus I know their condition in most cases will be kept safer staying in the package. Not to mention it does drastically reduce the value. And the reason I'm willing to pay more for MOC/MIB is b/c I know their more valuable and they'll retain that value in most cases, should I ever have to sell. Which I did eventually have to sell my MOC Greek Skydancer *cries* But at least I can say I had one in my collection at one point.

Yes, yes, yes and again, yes.
I don't ever plan on selling my collection so I don't really care if I free a rare pony. I hate the idea of MOC I think it's terrible. Like willow, if I lucked upon one I might be tempted to just sell her for profits but I think I would most likely keep the pony and free them. I think there's something so terrible about leaving a toy in it's box, never to be touched, or held or petted.

Also, I know at least with argies, being on the cards destroys them, marks them up. By keeping them in the box you're harming them.

Ok now that you've made yourself clear...NOPE! Although I do love to rip me open some G1 goodies I also have restraint on the rarities. I had all 3 Jewelry Babies MOC for years and the only known MOC Baby Diamond (there were 3 known Baby Sapphires and about a good 10 Baby Rubies). I was able to keep myself from ripping them open.

However, the list of HTF G1s I have opened is rather large *dodges fakies* and we don't regret it one bit!

As for G3's I kinda do both. Some I have to open to get my grabby hands on. Others not so much. My G3 Bay Breeze is still in her baggie but I like her baggie. The little sticker is colorful and cute.

However, that being said.....I have plans to open a HTF G1 item in another week and I will be taking a video of me doing it...Muahahahahahahahahahaha!

I have seen this debate/discussion come up over the years. All I have to say is: Spend over 600 or 700 dollars on a pony and then tell me you'd open it.

I haven't been that brave but I've opened items I spent $125 for :eek:mg:

Probably not... but then I wouldn't actively search out a MOC pony I had no intention off keeping on card.
I'm about to throw down money for a Euro MOC Tunefull, for the money I'm spending, that girl is staying in her bubble! (and in the grand scheme of things I'm not even throwing down much)

On the other hand, I bought a US Tunefull last summer whose bubble is half detached. I take her out every now and then and pet her and then stuff her back in the bubble, lol!
If I ever did reach the point where I completely detached her it would be a surgical process and every scrap of packaging would be saved XD (Hey a loose pony w/ backcard will resell for more than just the loose pony!)

Now G3s? Open those suckers up! Unless it's like Rosey Posey or a Fair pony, but then I'd only be keeping them in that condition for resale greed.

Yeah, because it's far more justifiable. One-hundred twenty-five dollars is a lot of money to some people, but to the majority of us, it's only a few weeks' worth of saving if we do it right. 600+ is more than something you could save just by minding your pennies, lol - if someone here knows a trick I don't, let me know how! :029:

If someone spent the 11,XXX dollars on that Lambaditsa pony and then bragged here how they ripped it open, I'd call them a moron two times. Really, that goes beyond having money and sense, at that point. The value would drop so much it'd be like buying a brand new car and then driving it into a wall "for the lulz".

I totally agree 100 percent. This is exactly what I would have said! (But of course, I would keep the packaging!)

I would open it if it was meant to be a permanent part of my collection. I enjoy touching my ponies (not that way.. perv..) and looking at them at all directions. :)

If I only bought it because I got it for a good price and was going to sell it sooner or later, then I'd let it be.
