I'm a huge fan of the Twinkle Eye ponies, and have managed to collect them all except one! I think we all know who I'm talking about. Mimic. XD She's the pony that costs the most, and is the hardest to find.
Since I lost my job, and haven't been able to find another one, I just can't justify spending +$100 on a piece of plastic. In fact, I don't think I could justify that on any purchase right now with this economy.
But I'm OCD, and I must complete this collection somehow! Thus, I began this little pony project I like to call:
MEEMO IS SO MESMERIZED BY PONY CUSTOMIZING.

He sat there the whole time I was working, just purring away.
Yes, she's painted. How did I get that smooth effect? Not by an airbrush, I can tell you that right now. I have no patience for those things. -_-; Instead I used a sponge. Worked just as well as an airbrush, but without the hassle of clogged nozzles.
I'm going to need to get a decent lining brush though, for when the time comes to do her eyes. Speaking of which, I really need to find a bait Quackers too. I'd use my (previously) moldy Masquerade but the shade of green is wrong. Anybody have Quackers?

Now that the body painting is done, I can get started on the symbols! Mimic's symbol is a piece of cake to stencil. The paints used were Anita's Christmas Red, and Apple Barrel's Bananna.
I'm not sure why Mimic is so popular. Her colors remind me of a hamburger! XD I know that she'll look better once her hair is rooted though, with those pink streaks. :3
Here we see the importance of THIN LAYERS. D: Don't be like me and lay it on too thick! The first side had to be redone since I put it on too thick and it smeared. x_X Be careful when taping down your stencils too!
Helpful tip: HAIR DRYERS MAKE PAINTING SYMBOLS A BREEZE.
They really do! It's kind of a pain to do when painting the bodies though.

Twinkle Eye ponies are all about the eye gems. Quackers is a match for Mimic's eyes, but I'm impatient (and broke) so I went ahead and popped out Masquerade's gems. It's close enough.
If you ever wondered what the gems looked like, wonder no more!
They are 11mm, with 8 facets. (9 if you count the flat top.) It's a very simple gem, and it's exactly the same on both sides. I have NO idea where you could buy some like this, but if I ever find out I'll let you guys know.

Here we are, after several attempts, with a nearly finished Mimic's Mimic!
The first few attempts were frustrating and full of grumbling, believe me. But here are some tips I found to help out:
-To place the eyes you must first cut off the neck joint. It makes the neck too narrow when trying to work, and is more trouble than it's worth anyway.
-Clay was the best method to keep the eyes in the socket. (Actually I couldn't find another way to do it.) I used supersculpey just to test it out, and get the eye placement right. You'll probably have to whittle the eye holes down a little as you go, but once you are satisfied with it, knock the gems out, touch up any paint scratches and then place the gems back in with some airdry clay.

The eyes bug me, because they don't stand out as far as a real TE pony's do. But that's simply because the pony was molded to incorporate the gems. This sadly, is as good as it gets. I'm hoping once the eyelashes and whites of the eyes are painted back in, it'll help make the gem mount less noticeable!

So I got a little antsy and decided to go ahead and get the eyes painted in! Here's what she looks like so far, I'm pretty pleased!

edit: 1/13/2010:
Mimic's Mimic has been sealed up with matte acrylic and she's ready to get a hair transplant!
Thank you, Applejackgirl for being kind enough to donate the hair for this project! I'll be making her a Baby Mimic as soon as it arrives in my mailbox. I am SO excited! OuO
