Going to the Fair? - Shuttles, dining, travel tips, freebies & more!

All you Thursday-arrivers -- not sure if you knew, but you can get Thursday night free at The Orleans if you're staying for 3 nights or more. RavenclawPrefect called the hotel to ask about it and they adjusted her reservation. I think it saved her $60! There's also the Entertainment.com discount I posted about too. Saved me $80.

sheesh that hotel is so screwy. it keeps changing their prices and rates like every other second. bleh

Like most hotels, they always go up and down in pricing. I'm sure with the great deals you guys have found and with the discounts, most should be able to get the entire weekend for hopefully under $200. Also check out hotwire.com. You have to go thru a few steps, but sometimes you can find good deals for that exact hotel. Also, the hotel's website itself is advertising some cheap prices too.

As long as they change the pricing to make it lower, I don't mind the hassle. Keep those changes a-comin'! I believe I've changed my reservations there four or five times now. It just gets cheaper and cheaper. Even with the $5 daily fee that isn't factored in the reservation (hotel fee), I'll be staying there for about $45 a night. Not too shabby!

I posted a get-together thread at the Arena so we can keep an eye on others that are interested:
My Little Pony Arena » Forums » Pony Talk » Pony Corral » Meet up after the MLP Fair in Vegas???

:)

I'm with you on the cheaper thing! I'll take a look at the Arena thread as well.

Don't forget everyone to write down or print out those shuttle numbers and hotel info too. Let me know what you guys decide to do. I'll be there.

What about a meet up on Friday evening for those who may have plans on Saturday already? I know that a lot of people are coming in on Thursday and Friday as well. I already have plans for Saturday after the fair so won't make that meet up.

I get in around 1:15 pm on Thursday, planning to take a shuttle from the airport (so if you see me, say hello!) and currently have no plans for Friday (yet) but would like to go do something fun/interesting.

I just thought about this. A compromise!

How about Friday night we do the pizza party thing and hang out by the pool that evening. The orleans has a pool and I don't think they will be carding who comes in to play in it. We could have pizza outside and chit chat and then lounge in the pool and hot tubs.

Then Saturday night we can all go to rainforest cafe.

How does that sound? Depending on votes we can switch the 2 nights. I kinda like this option if it's ok with everyone. :)

(Also posted on the sister thread at the Arena: CROSS POST)

I use this online map a lot:
LAS VEGAS STRIP
Here it is with our starting & destination points:
Las-Vegas-Strip-Map1.jpg

They're about 2 miles apart, you definitely don't want to walk that in the Vegas heat. I'll have a car so if we need to, I can shuttle a few people over at a time from the convention. I figure we should allow at least a half hour to get everyone there. How does reservations at 7 sound? That way we can have a half hour to change and freshen up and the rest to get over there. Is that too late or not enough time?
By the way, I think the Rain Forest Cafe is a great spot. If you want to explore the rest of the Strip, the Monorail starts at MGM and goes all the way up :)

Thanks for the map. What time do you guys want to eat? I was thinking actually a bit later than 7, more like 730 or 8p because you've gotta figure those with booths need to get them shut down, and you always have a last minute customer, which is not a problem, and it gives people time to get back to their rooms and freshen up a bit. Then figure in commute time. Does this sound more feasible to everyone?

Can we get a list going of who'd like to join us?

I called the hotel and got the reservations line. I asked about shipping and receiving packages at the hotel. She really couldn't give me much info on shipping out, but she thinks it's the same as receiving.

To receive a package, you have to go upstairs to the business center to pick it up. When addressing the package to the hotel, be sure to put the Orleans Hotel & Casino on the address label and be sure to put attention on there with the guest's name in (). So like this:

The Orleans Hotel & Casino
attn: (guest's name)
4500 W. Tropicana Ave
Las Vegas, NV 89103

with the person's name who is going to be receiving the package that way it's flagged and the front desk and let you know in your room if it's arrived.

The following fees apply,
0-5 pounds, it's a flat $5 fee
6-15 pounds, it's a flat $10 fee.

This info is for picking up a package delivered to the hotel. The lady says she thinks it's the same charges if you ship something out, but could not answer any other shipping type questions.

And here is more info on the orleans hotel,
Hotels.com: The Orleans Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, NV
Hotels and Discounts – The Orleans Hotel & Casino

Good to know! I was wondering if I'd be able to ship something there....stuff I might not be able to fit in the suitcases.

How about changing the thread title to something like MLP Fair thread: Rainforest Cafe signup & more. And then revising the first post to include a list of who all wants to be on the sign up? You can put us down for sure (ashlyne/Angie & Steve) to get things started.

Bumping up.

Here's the list we've got going to the Rainforest Cafe so far from the Arena thread:

DEFINITELY GOING
SailorLibra
ashlyne
Steve (ashlyne's hubby)
blu_clouds
BabyBlueRibbon
princessmaker
StrawberryReef
StrawberryReef's hubby

MAY BE GOING
princessmaker's hubby

Anyone else from here want to be added to the list??

I want to go! Are we doing the Rain Forest Cafe on Saturday Night? I can go either way but I just want to get the right date in my planner.

re

Hi

I will definetly be at both if I can, I put in for both days off but it depends on my job. Sometimes they won't let me know until the last minute.

Across the street form the MGM is the New York, New York and they have an outdoor rollercoaster that goes around the casino. Its pretty crazy. I think it costs 5-8 dollars. Also in the New York, New York, they have a Coyote Ugly bar, if anyone wants to go dance on a the bar? I think the cover is 20 but sometimes if you go early ladies are free.

Diagonally from the MGM is the Excalibur, they have carnival like games, a medieval shopping themed area and they have a Knights of the Round Table Joust with horses. I think its like 30.00 for the show which includes a meal. But the guys are HOT!

There's also this weird place in there called Dave's Last resort or something, where you eat and people/and staff and rude and obnoxious to you while you eat. Seriously, my friend was telling me, that's abit strange, but just to walk by and see may be interesting.

A little down the way is the Excalibur- I think there's a tram also, is the Luxor the black pyramid, there'a few cool Egyptian stores in there plus a cool arcade with motion rides and its just cool to go in and walk around. There's also a cool night club called Ra, and the inside has these awesome Egyptian statues.

Next to that is the Mandalay bay which has the House of Blues restaurant there, and some upper expensive shopping. I think they also have that 40 Deuce Burlesque Nightclub, with old style showgirls. Manadalay Bay also has a shark reef exhibit, its small but nice, I think its like 15.00 a person, just take your time, because it goes fast.

Other Casinos...........

There's also the Palms if you want to people watch, its where the celebrities hang out, and they have the Playboy Club there and a Playboy store for clothes etc, there;s also a Hart and Hardington Tattoo shop there.

The mall on the Strip is cool its right by Treasure Island, which has the Sirens, that do a free show outside.

I 'll add more later....

Kat

Just giving this thread a bump because this info will be needed here very shortly for many
