Are you participating in the eBay strike?

As I am sure you know, eBay is changing its feedback structure, as well as other changes including fee changes. I am unhappy with the changes, as it seems more people are. Apparently, though, many sellers are so upset that they are planning to strike - no selling or buying - on the week starting February 18th.

eBay Strike info/forums

Do you plan to participate in this strike, I am curious? As either a seller or buyer?

Boy, this is exactly the same thing as "gas outs" at the pump.
If you read through just the first page of the thread you'll see why it won't work... people are saying right there that they will list everything the week before, or will just list afterwards.

It has to be a total ceasing of listings (and/or buying) until demands are met/policies change. Otherwise, there will be no affect and no change.

I don't sell, but I think these new policies are not only unfair to sellers, but will eventually ruin ebay. I'll support a strike. Ebay needs its small time sellers, and these new policies are designed to run them off of ebay in favor of Powersellers. I just wish there was some place I could send my complaints about the new policies where it would actually get read. Judging from these new policies, as a buyer my opinion has a lot more weight than a seller's opinion. That's just sad since it's the sellers who are actually the ones paying ebay.

While a week long strike won't bring ebay to its knees, hopefully it'll get at least a little attention.

Ebay is just trying to drive off everyone literally. Guess they are tired of all of the complaints from people. I am rarely on there anyways, so I guess yeah, I'll strike with you guys in support of it if you chose to. I like our auctions here better anyways.

I just got my friend's MIB ponies to sell and I'm so worried she's going to get bad prices because of this strike that I'm just going to post a sales thread on the boards and take offers first. I definetly will not be selling for a while. But I agree, just a week strike isn't going to make much of a difference.

If ebay goes ahead with the changes I probably wont be selling there at all anymore. I will just sell here and on the arena. As for Buying, I will probably still buy if people are selling something I am looking for, but it wont be as much as I use to.

Okay, I'm out of the loop on this. What exactly is going on with these changes? I read SS thread about it, but I didn't understand it very well. Could someone clarify this all up for me so I can understand. Maybe a comparison of the old charges, etc to the new format. Thanks.

The point that most seller's don't like is that they took away the option to leave buyers negative feedback.

Plus, they are claiming to have lowered fees....but they only lowered insertion fees, and RAISED Final Closing fees (from like 5% to 8%!!!)

Not only that, but eBay also is going to hold PayPal payments for up to twenty-one days when they THINK a buyer will be dissatisfied. Like they have a crystal ball or something?

And if a seller has low recent feedback (last thirty days, I think), their auction items will be "buried" in the last pages when someone does a search. Now, if you're a powerseller who sells 1,000 a week maybe that's not a big deal, you can "eat" a few negs and survive . . . but if you sell only a few items every week, just ONE crazy, negging buyer will have a dramatic effect on your feedback score. If you only sell two items in a month and one of your buyers negs you, your "visible" feedback is suddenly sitting at 50%!

Anyway, I think the proposed changes are dreadful, especially on top of the ridiculous final value fee hike. But I think leaving eBay unless/until they change will have more effect than merely not listing anything for a week. I can't afford ponies right now anyway, but once I can I plan to check out the TP and the Arena rather than eBay.

I don't sell on Ebay, but if it helps I probably won't buy on it during the strike week either. I already spent my darned pony budget for this month anyway.
But I agree, I don't know that a week of maybe a thousand or more Ebayers striking will help, especially since it will just be flooded with auctions right before or right after. But every little bit does help, and hopefully it'll get their attention.

As soon as May comes and everything goes into effect, I am out of eBay. Out. Auf wiedersehn, adios, au revoir, sayonara, BYE BYE!! Hopefully my pony collection will be sold by then... but if not I am thinking of making a selling journal of sorts on eBay, or something. There's always alternatives to eLame.

Both! I am soo annoyed at yet another fee hike! Ebay is so greedy!

I'm definitely supporting this strike. I've been considering selling on eBay after being a member for a few years, but this just completely turns me off.

It's a terrible, unfair, and misleading new policy. It will trick some people at first, but we are all fortunate that many users are trying hard to bring this to everyone's attention.

I am all for the strike, however, my cynical side is telling me that i dont think it will work ~ i think that a lot of sellers will cash in on the lack of competition and the buyers will happily bid for the same reason :/

The strike has also come to the UK side of Ebay too and i dearly hope the cynic in me will be proven wrong!

Well, I rarely buy new ponies anymore anyway, but most of my G1 collection came from ebay. I do know that when I've needed money and had to part with things in the past, I've hated how much it costs to use ebay, but found it the easiest way. So strike or not, I doubt I'll ever sell there again. As a buyer,I won't be buying anything the week of the strike, but that's not a big deal for me. But a can't rule out ever shopping there again. If it is buyer friendly and has stuff I want for sale at good prices, I'll probably still buy stuff there.

I'm in. I know that a week won't make a diffirence, but we have to start somewhere.
For a seller it's instant terrible news, but long term will buyers will suffer too.

Imagine only being able to buy from Power Sellers! No more bargains for us.

I'm all for supporting the strike. Unless something I really want shows up on ebay.

Seeing as I am mostly broke, I will not be buying on ebay that week. Luckily the few auctions that I am watching go off in the next 3 days. As someone who only sells every once in a while, I am very sad about these changes. Ebay sold out and it stinks. I probably will not sell on there anymore.
