You guys have to see the G1 MLP Unicorn Skull Replica on Etsy

My entire den is decorated in a Day of the Dead motif, skeletons on the cabinet doors and all. I could make good use of it.

Plus, I have to admit right here, I have a huge tub of real skulls and bones. I think skulls in particular are beautiful pieces of art. Most of them belong to critters that passed away and I can tell you who they are by just looking at them. When an animal here dies, I leave their body for Old Man Coyote, then retrieve what bones are left later. I keep the skull if it's there and bury the rest.

I know it sounds macabre, but I'm a Choctaw and we were once known as Bone Pickers. Keeping the bones of loved ones is sort of traditional, though they didn't do it like I do it now. I'm creepy I know. Call me foofoo Addams.
*backs away in shock* You keep animal skeletons in a box? *gulp*

Can I at least keep my head?

I keep 'em out in the studio. I use them in art sometimes. You're safe!

Although you do have such a pretty, pretty skull. Hmm.....

I knew it! Your really an alien museum curator in disguise! its all adding up now *nods head professionally*

Ha! Did you guys read the description? I just did! It's hilarious!

CatalystKoi says:
Great for Brony mobsters, morbid vintage collectors, tiny fantasy museum curators, and the princess who has everything!
[Applejack is property of Hasbro, she is part of Koi's personal collection, appears only for purposes of scale, and she had absolutely *nothing* to do with that skull and would testify so in court, if she were not currently at an undisclosed location in Mexico. We think. Maybe. Where's my lawyer?]

I used to collect animal bones all the time as a kid. I wanted to be a paleontologist, so it just seemed natural to gather and study them. I also felt like I was somehow honoring their spirits by re-purposing the bones in art projects. People looked at me like I was crazy when I made a stop motion puppet with real raccoon teeth, but it turned out awesome.

Ooooo... I would love to see your stop motion animation! I'm working on a little project myself (with antique bisque dolls). I'm a huge fan of the art! And how funny, you and I have something else in common too! I wanted to be a paleontologist as a kiddo as well! I had scads of dinosaur toys and books, then decided there was no money in it and went another way. I was in love with Robert Bakker for a while even. LOL!

I think it's beautiful you feel that way about bones. They're lovely, and it's a shame to bury them in the ground when they're so lovely in art. I make wind chimes and fetishes and all sorts of things with bones. I like how they feel in my hands, I like how they sound when they strike one another. It does honour the animal to use them. It's part of my whole belief system.

For a long time I've had this idea that when I die, I want to be cremated, but not before having one of my bones removed and carved into jewelry or an ornament, and for that to be kept in the family. You never get all of the person's ashes when they're cremated anyway, and people either scatter them or have them sitting in an urn forever. I'd prefer my family to keep a part of me close after I'm gone, so that I'm always there and part of their lives. Of course my boyfriend thinks this is creepy and thus it will probably never happen.

Also when I was little, I was very into dinosaurs. When I was about five years old, a week after my grandmother's pet bird died and she buried him in her garden, I asked her if we could go exhume it so that I could see what it looked like – thinking that it would be a skeleton already.

This is so rad! I love unique pieces like this. You really have to think outside the box to be able to create a unicorn skull :lolpony:

I really dig the way you think. You can't find an item more personal than a person's bone. I can imagine having a necklace made of a bone from a loved one would be very precious. The tangibility would give such a close connection that an urn just couldn't match.

Your poor Grandma! I bet she had a laugh over that :lolpony:

Since they say memories are one of a kind, how can bones be not? ;)

LOL
Did you un-buried the bird afterwards? Did it turn into a skeleton? lol
