Seriously. I keep seeing people on my Facebook pony group posting and boasting about ponies they have bought and these folks are regularly spending hundreds of dollars on ponies (hard to find, mail orders etc). The part that I'm baffled at is where this money is coming from. I look at their photos and many of these people are very young (teen to early twenties). I don't get it. Before I lost my job, I was making very good money for an adult and I never would have spend so frivolously. What am I missing here? Are there that many collectors who are independently wealthy? Are their parents funding this habit? Or do kids get jobs now and just spend every cent they have on things they want with no thought to the future?
Incidentally, I just missed out on a local pick up for two MOC ponies. The girl who did pick them up, has listed them for sale at like four times what she paid. I guess I don't think of collecting in terms of making a profit, but maybe this is how some people are funding their spending.
