There's so much mystery around this filly.....like why does she come in 3 different base colors? Why doesn't she have a symbol when everyone else does? Why is she under the care of Twilight, in "Rescue at midnight Castle"? Who was this 'angel pony' that she encountered in "Ember's Dream"? Does it have something to why she's under the care of Twilight?

any thoughts?

I’m not at all a pony historian or anything but my understanding of Ember is this:

Ember as a character in the show was a baby pony who was under the care of Twilight. Mainly because she was the most responsible and trusted with the care of the baby pony. I haven’t seen “Ember’s Dream” in forever so I honestly don’t really remember much of it. So, I can’t comment on that.

Ember as a toy, was simply a new gimmick for Hasbro. She was the very first baby pony offered and this available as mail order in three different colours. So you got to choose the colour, which was part of the draw in. I was a fan of pink, so I got the pink one. Hasbro knew how to market to is little girls.
1) Make it an elusive rare pony you can’t get in store. 2) Let us choose which colour of the same baby pony we want.

But that’s my two cents..

I actually know the details on her toy coloration and such, but I was asking on how they tie into her character (or lack thereof) . Is she a glitch pony whose appearance alters for some reason? Are there three different Embers with unique appearances? Is Majesty cloning her, resulting in the color variations? Is she Twilight's adopted daughter?

I loved ember's dream it was unique I love the part about the rainbow ponies hair getting cut off and will be sent as wigs to new york city it is classic.

Good questions. Watching the 80s MLP intro 493,929 times, :p I wondered a little if Ember was Twi's real child. At first I didn't question it, but then I thought about it.

As for Ember, she didn't appeal to me when I started my adult pony collection because she had no symbol, but I think I didn't know she was the first (mail order) baby pony. Now that suddenly makes me want her more. Maybe all 3 of her, even though I don't get people who collect multiples of the same character in the same pose. (It's like, how many do you need?!)

This is getting very head-canony, but I like to think that ponies are community-raised in Ponyland. Like, sure Baby Gusty is Gusty's baby, but do we really see her care for them that much? It's more like the duties of child rearing are shared between those who are good with children, while the other parents are left to do what else needs to be done.
If all of the baby ponies came through a magic mirror/were from magic, that would explain why Ember supposedly has 3 different colors (perhaps she prefers the purple one), at least if we include the UK comics.
I'm assuming Twilight isn't her sole caretaker, but she does care very much for Ember.

is Ember featured in the UK comics? I've tried looking around heckyeahponyscans's page, and didn't see anything on her.

Ember is not, but the other baby ponies are. Baby Lucky is the one not created through the mirror, but rather a spell. (Right?)
do you have the source for this? I can't seem to find Baby Lucky's origin story

edit: nevermind. found it
