Weird things you find yourself doing...

Last night I shaved my couch.

Crazy as it sounds, I took a razor and shaved the couch, because my rotten cats keep sharpening their claws on it. There were strings hanging off everywhere. I was able to whisk them off, now it looks better, but it's maddening, the couch isn't very old, and I quite fancy it.

It just sounds so funny: I shaved my couch.

What weird sounding things have you done, with a perfectly logical reason for doing so?

Wake up in night or before I go to bed I think where is X. I have to find X before I can go to bed.

I make a corner with my sheets and rub it against my fingers, or face. It comforts me, but I don't know why.

I have a lot of “weird” ocd things I do...

At night before I go upstairs to bed, I always check the locks on the back door and front door. As I check the front door I peek out the window to look at my car (if it’s not in the garage) to make sure someone isn’t braking into it. It’s never happened but I still do it EVERY night.

I still sleep with a stuffed animal. My boyfriend was jealous at first but understands now why.. lol (I have horrible night terrors if I don’t.)

I “rub” my foot on my sheets at night as I fall asleep, it calms and soothes me. Likely because my mom rubbed my feet when I was a baby all the time apparently.

I have lots more but these are the most strange I guess. So embarrassing.

@evilbunnyfoofoo - have you ever tried the nail caps for your cats so they stop scratching up the furniture?? They come in so many pretty colours and even glitter.

I have to have my blanket I have had senses I was 4 I will freak out if I can't find it. I also sleep under 9 blankets and with up to 9 stuff animals.

Oh man, there's a lot of weird things I do, lol!! For some odd reason I have a weird habit of quoting movies or TV shows that I've seen. I don't do it through out the day, but it's something that I think defines me as a person or that people think is weird. Sometimes I hear people say to me, "Stop quoting movies." Another thing I do is I wake up in the middle of the night and look around the room because I never know if it's going to be morning or still late at night or mid afternoon because every so often I'll pass out in mid-day and wake up not knowing the time of day.

I have a small piece of silky cloth that I like to run through my fingers while I am at work on phone calls. If I am going somewhere with a friend in their car, I will still take my key fob out and try to unlock it, even though the other car looks nothing close to mine. I use nail files instead of sand paper for tons of craft projects. Sand paper doesn't seem to work nearly as well or last as long IMHO. I even used a metal nail file to file the keyhole of my door lock so the bolt went in easier. I like doing various craft and art projects, but I am not as prolific as I should be--I seem to enjoy shopping for the craft projects more than doing the project itself in some cases.

I use my bed as a table during the day. I don't have room for a real table in my room so I put everything on my bed. I even have a placemat to put my food on lol. My room is pretty much my work area. When I go to sleep, I put everything in my office chair

I'm so glad to know that you all have little idiosyncrasies.

@ActionHank I, too, physical check all the locks including windows before bed.

@evilbunnyfoofoo I, too have shaved furniture. Not for a while as my Wesley is so well behaved. I still do when the wear is uneven on something. I also took a Razer blade to the showers and sinks. I just can't stand that scummy stuff that builds up in the crevices around fixtures.

@Sunshine Sam I have dissociative disorder. I black out with certain triggers. I'm always confused and disoriented when I wake up. I'm not really ok anywhere except my own bed. I also have dreams so vivid that it can take a while to convince myself I'm awake.

@Ology there's always x to find, do or write down it seems. Until it's done, trying to sleep is useless. I have a canopy bed now. (So incredibly girly) It has valances that make my bed feel enclosed and safe, plus it's metal so my magnetic flashlight is always in reach as well as my cuddle pony and beanie boo.

@Leave a Whisper I sleep with my sheets pressed up on my face. My baby blankets were all handmade by my mom with satin bindings. I always love the feel of satin on my face. As it turns out, some 800 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets are almost as soft. (Yes, my clothing, tech, car, residence, and furniture all reflect my brokeness, yet I grabbed two sets a few years ago when the sheets were on clearance. So worth it).

@Skybreeze I've got loads more. More than I could write down tonight. So I'll only add one. I have to wash my feet before bed. Always. I can stand my feet being dirty, and the thought of it getting on my sheets horrifies me.

@evilbunnyfoofoo there are also some sprays that will deter your cats from clawing. Some humans can't even smell.

@Tak - I can totally one up that. I must always shower before bed because I hate feeling like the days dirt is on me before getting snug in bed at night.

I also HATE wearing socks or enclosed shoes, my feet need to be free as much as possible. OR in my pug slippers, yes I have stock piled them so I can forever have them in my life. I have too many idiosyncrasies to point out in one thread.

No worries. I'm certified crazy. As Melanie Martinez says "all the best ppl are crazy". o_O

Hh I always make sure the closet doors are closed because they are pitch black at night and it makes me kinda.... paranoid? (The one farthest from my bed won't close unfortunately and I really don't like it. The one closest to me is kinda messed up so there's a triangle of black that narrows down to the floor and I can't stand it.)

I always sleep on my left side because I've got this little fear of waking up and seeing someone stare at me through the window (it's on my right side). I also don't like sleeping on my back because I hear that's a common position to get sleep paralysis in and I really don't want that.

My door needs to be closed (and locked but some people are against locking my door). The reason I have for this is simple; the left side of my room is where you enter, if the door is open, I have a nice view of the hallway. Because I have a rather active (and sometimes a rather cursed) imagination, I'm very likely to see something that isn't there. That dark hallway plus my imagination is bound to create something dreadful. I also like having it locked for safety and privacy but that's the entire purpose of having a lock.

Sorry kiddo. Guess you inherited my overactive imagination too.

Darn kids pop lock and dropping in the middle of the night outside your window!

I'm opposite about the sock thing. I ALWAYS have to have socks on my feet. They get cold really easily, and I have diabetes so my feet need all the protection they can get.

I get so cold when I'm tired. Teeth chattering even when it's 90 out. Something about my thyroid being unable to control my body thermostat.

I'm easily cold in general. I almost always have a winter coat on, at least indoors. My thyroid is apparently fine so it's not that. I think it was because I was an undiagnosed diabetic for several years, and I think my body temperature was normally higher as a result. I didn't start getting easily chilled until my diabetes started getting properly treated.

That makes sense @Winged Mirage

I randomly subconsciously rub my legs in public due to a anxiety coping mechanism triggered by childhood trauma probably

I only realize I'm doing it when people remark on it

My grandpa in law was baffled by it lol

Um.... I call the bathtub thevfridge sometimes

So I tell my kids to go hop in the fridge to wash up and they know where to go probably
