I found the G4's in a local Walmart last week and decided to grab an extra Pinkie Pie to turn into my Ponysona.

I figured I would post a tutorial on how to disassemble a G4 :).

Here she is and she has no idea what is about to happen to her.
First things first though.

Off with her head! The setup seems similar to the G3.5.

I needed to get the thing holding the head on out of her body. I cut around the neck ring with an xacto knife....

and it popped right out when I pulled on it. I plan on super gluing it back into place once the custom is finished so that her head can move freely.

I then took my hemostats and pulled the tail out. This was simple.

I then proceeded to give her a mohawk in order to rip out all of her hair.

I took my hemostats again and pulled all the hair out. The good news is it doesn't seem as though Hasbro loaded up on the glue with the G4's her hair was easy to pull out :D.

Here she is all dissembled!

I then took off her eyes and symbols to prep her for painting. The G4's DO have eye indents.

All in all this was a pretty quick process considering the hours spent sometimes with G3's and there heads full of glue D:

She's totally rocking the mohawk look XD

They look nice and easy to mess with, but really, I'm mostly oogling here to get good close-ups of the HUBbers... aw man, they're just *so* cute! <333

wow! nice tutorial! It looks so easy i might even have to give it a try once i start finding some used G4s. But right now I just want them for my collection and cant think of customizing yet lol

"HUBers" lol is that what we are refering to the G4s as now? Kinda cute! lol

I'm a little late to the party, but I want to thank you again for putting this tutorial together!! I definitely felt a lot more confident taking my Pinkie Pie apart.

I do have to ask, though (and other G4 customizers, please feel free to answer this as well): do you have a particular technique for re-attaching the head and neck plug? I tried gluing the plug in place first, but when I applied the pressure to re-attach the head it sank into the body...now I'm trying to glue the plug attached to the head back into the body, but I'm afraid the head may get stuck in place.

Anyone got any tips?

Sorry to be a pain.

Yes! I have been meaning to post about this after seeing some people have trouble with their customs having a gap with the neck.

I glue the plug with the head on it back onto the body. After I get the plug in to where it needs to be (this is done quickly) I turn the head until I am sure the super glue is dry. If you keep turning the head there is no way for it to get stuck :). Just make 100% sure the glue is dry before stopping.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here. One side of my hemostats actually snapped off at the joint when I was trying to get the hair out of a Rainbow Dash @_@

Aha! Thanks so much!! I've got my pony's head safely reattached, and it turns, and there really doesn't seem to be much of a gap at all :)

This was a much needed thread! Thanks so much for posting this! xD
