Hello again! i have recently found a G1 Gingerbread and well she has a few problems, none concerning her plastic or cutie marks, but rather the rust and a very bad hair cut as you can see.
i was gonna leave her as she was but the rust is the worst I've come across and i don't think cleaning it will do much help as it will just fester again (possibly).

so i was thinking should i re-hair her? it would have to be wool as living in the UK makes buying the proper nylon hair quite expensive *sadness* .However, i think this effect could look quite nice especially once fully combed.

shes definitely not custom bait as her paint is immaculate and i currently don't have her :p
my options would be:

  • Leave her as she is
  • re-hair with wool
  • re-hair with nylon hair ( the proper stuff, i forget the name.) - this would be great if you could shed any light on wheres the best place to buy it for in the uk.
any opinions or insights would be gladly appreciated!

Hmm... if the only reason you are considering rehairing is the rust, you can clean that and remove the washer and clamp. First, remove the washer. Then use toothpaste and wash the rusty bits with toothpaste. If toothpaste doesn't work, you can try some harsher stuff. Once the rust is gone, remove the clamp and replace it with a wire tie. That way she will have no rust and won't have any in the future! This is a great website: http://www.mlppreservationproject.com/hair.html#TailRust
If you don't mind the hair cut, you could leave it. It doesn't look too bad (at least it's not a buzzcut!) Some ponies look cute with a bob :)

If you don't like the haircut and want to rehair... I honestly don't know. I'm a bit conflicted. If it was a buzzcut, I would say go for it, but she doesn't look too bad...

Agreed. Only problem is that I've had problems with washers befor. The hair comeing undone and that. But I'll have a looksie. Thankyou and yh it's good it's not a buzz cut :D

Hahah I just had a thought. I may as well try as if it go to shambles I'll just have to re-hair the tail alone.

When my ponies have had terrible tail rust from the washers, I will clean the hair and replace the washer with plastic zip ties. Then you don’t have to worry at all about tail rust.
Honestly, I have some ponies with shorter manes/tails and I kind of like them when on display. You can see more of their faces and paint. But if it’s bothering you, I say try rehairing. It is a relaxing process. Lol

I bought up a buncha hair, then was too lazy to ever try it. I have to get my stuff out and re-hair me a pony. It needs to be a slow old one, I hurt my knee and back so I can't run fast enough to catch a young one.

:lolpony:

Well, my logic would be:
I'm this far. Might as well commit myself to it. I have had solid results with re-hairing ponies where that is the one major flaw of a pony that I'm keeping 5-ever.

I would try the cleaning if you're ok with the haircut, otherwise, I think the woolly hair looks great on the te.

ok. will do. i just think its wise to get the proper material first before i try anything!

@mewgaming02 - Not sure if it will help at all but I came across this site tonight after a late night binge down the Youtube wormhole.

Not sure that it will be cheaper or not for you to order through them. I just calculated it and it’s cheaper for me to buy there than dollyhair.com. And I live in Canada... exchange rates suck so hard.
