The Species Swap - CLOSED! Thanks, ladies!

Man I wish I would've signed up for this. I kinda forgot about it.... hehe But I can't wait to see what comes outta this, I'm sure they will be awsomeness ponified! And I can always hope we'll do a round 2 (hint, hint, nudge, nudge) :424:

Ditto! *hits self on head*
Can't believe I missed this, what a cool idea!

Well, I'm done!

I hope to get a little extra done next weekend, but for now I'm done =)

AADRA - your Dollyhair order has arrived. :) Please come get it. Bring cookies.

I placed my dollyhair order and (I think!) decided on the pony...now I have to just "get to it!"

:penguinaspin:

I had the hardest time trying to decide which pony to do, but it has been going smoothly since then. Most of the painting is done, and I'm just waiting on hair. I really wanted to do 2 of the 3 ponies listed. lol

Yea, more progress! I'm about halfway through the body repaint. It took a while to mix the color I wanted (and I mixed an absolutely gorgeous one trying to get it right!), but I finally got it. I hope to finish the body repaint and do the eyes and symbols this weekend.

Adding extras is fine if you want, but remember this is not a "swap box," this is a "custom swap." You may or may not receive extras in return.

oh i know that Skeen. i'm not gonna go over board XD;;; I just like adding a few little fun extra things that are theme appropriate. I'm not expecting anything other than a pony from whoever's sending to me, so no worries ^^ Iz all gooooooooood :D

:reaper: Kat :reaper:

Symbols and eyes done! I hate doing eyes...well, really, I hate the eyelashes. No matter how much I practice, they never come out how I want them to. :( (but don't worry, partner of mine, they still look nice, just not as I wish)

Now it is just rehairing when the hair arrives, touchups and seal.

Do you want us to ship when we are finished, or should we wait until closer to the swap end date?

Let's wait til at least the check-in. I'd hate for anyone to ship early and then receive a really late custom (not that I expect anyone to flake, it's just happened SOOOOO many times before I'm trying to cover all of our butts this time).

Sounds good to me!

I would be done if their hair would arrive. Poor pony....they're bald. :(

Like the rainbow curl ponies had? Straws and near boiling water =)

well depending upon your sealent, the tissue/toilet paper you use to help wrap/curl the hair might stick a bit to it after it's dried but that comes off really easily with a little water. but from the few ponys i've painted/sealed and curled hair on in one form or another, it doesn't seem to hurt it at all. i just wouldn't go dunking the entire paintjob in water though ^^;

:reaper: Kat :reaper:

Yes try not to dunk the whole pony, and treat her very nicely when she's wet (a lot of rubbing can pull up even a sealed paint job =/ )
I will say this, if you sealed with Mod Podge and you thinned it out with water it CAN "unset" (for lack of a better word) when it's hot and wet, so if there's any hair really touching the sealant it can get glued onto the paint job (leaving lots of icky lines when you remove the hair :( )

But if you're boil perming and not using the body to curl you should be fine =)
Just wrap the hair around some pens/straws/wooden dowels an clip them into place (I have little alligator clips that work well) and then dunk her up to the hair line (I usually dip her 3 times, 10 seconds in water, 10 seconds out, mostly because that steam can burn even if you're using tongs!) Then set her somewhere to dry for a bit. The longer you let her sit the longer her curls will last (I do 24 hours minimum)

If you're worried about the paint and hair you can put some paper towel between them so it's not resting right up against each other =)

I just wet the hair with water straight from the tap just so it's easier to work with, then I wrap chunks around a wooden dowel that I cut into 9 pieces (if you look closely none of my customs with curled hair have more then 9 ringlets ^^;; ) And since you can't bobby pin to wooden dowels I use alligator clips. (I mean come on, my hair is an inch long, what ELSE can I use them for now?!)
Then I microwave some water in a pyrex measuring cup, grab her with the tongs and go a-dunking!

(And does it prove how much of a dork I am that my mom got me a 4 cup capacity measuring cup (as opposed to all my 2 cup sized ones) and my first thought was "PONY DUNKING!"?)

I think there are as many boil perming techniques as there are customizers. Just gotta find what works for you =)

I got my hair the day after I last posted and rerooted her. I'm just waiting for some new zip ties to give her a tail, then it is styling and done! :artist:
