I'd like another happy thread. I thought it would be nice to hear about how many, what kind and when you have had pets. (I count livestock)

So... first we had two cats Boris and Tina when I was born. At 2 we had a Bassett hound, and at five a shih tzu named cuddle pie. (That was on her akc paperwork) I won't be able to keep this in a correct timeline, so I'm just going off when we got them. Next was a mini doxie named T.W. little guy on his akc registration. (T.W. stands for teenie weenie) Then a pug named Pudgy because I loved betty boop, and a Jack Russell mix named pepper. We had to put Tabasco on the deck to keep pepper from chewing on the deck boards where light reflected off the windchime. We got Mr Mittens and little black sambo who were littermates. Half Persian cats that were 25lbs full grown and lean mean hunting machines. Then a n American shorthair named dainty dotty dee, black and white spotted. She wasn't as good a hunter. Then Amy a Turkish Van/Scottish fold. She was so soft, white with just a little black, and all of 10lbs full grown. I got to see her have kittens when we were given a purebred Persian stud, all black. His name was picasso. Their babies were beautiful. We had Contessa, my pony, her colt spooked dude, a gelding named breeze 'n bye, a mare named sugar, another mare named Nellie, another gelding named handyman, and my favorite gelding rebel, plus Chester the pony who was rather mean. Nobody else would touch him. We raised lambs for 4-H 3 years in a row. I had petunia, big Louie, and gwenivere. We hatched bantum chickens and they were sweet, the rooster's crow was amusing. We had barred rocks, Rhode island reds, and Americana's, all with their own rooster. I think our peak was 57 full size layers. We had a rabbit named bunnicula, an albino. We had fish, but mittens and sammy ate them. We had a garter snake until Sammy found it. My brother had an iguana named zymo (any get that reference?), Sammy at that iguana, so we reinforced the terrarium and got zeto (z-2) lol. Then there was a mini American Eskimo named massak, a corgi named nia, and now a Burmese mountain dog named zoe. There were also meat chickens, mini Turkey's, and more layers, plus "the trio of terror" bantum hens who let a 3 year old girl walk right up and pet them.

On my own there was anck-such-namun, stinky, and shady lane. Stinky was Egyptian Mau rejected by his mum. The other two just mixes. They tried to tell me that mun was a boy... nope, I can tell, girl, all black an so petite. Stinky was enormous. Shady was average size and all three only liked me. A yorkie named McGillicuddy Gene, and now my sweet Wesley. I told E should could have a hamster or cat, but she would need to do all the cleaning, care, and
feeding. She said no thanks.

So tell about your pets! I love animals, was even a groomer and worked a petco for a short time. I had a great uncle with an 8' boa that I got to see when I was 4. I like scales.

I have a lazy black cat named Cinder who's 12, and a very playful 9 month old lab/shepard/pitbul mix named Opal. Had to say goodbye to my sweet 16 year old lab Jake last December, but I have his ashes on a shelf overlooking his favorite spot.

We have four cats: Two black torbie sisters, they turn 16 this summer. One of them usually sits next to my keyboard when I'm at the computer. Then we have a ten year old blue tabby who is very shy to strangers, she's half Norwegian, but short-haired. Our Norwegian Forest Cat is also a blue tabby, but long-haired and is 9 years old. She is full of energy, regularly gifts us with her prey (usually mice, often still very much alive), but is scared of "boss puss", one of our eldest (who's probably half her size). We call her human food junkie, as she's more interested in what we're eating (we're not even eating meat ;)) than what's in her bowl. She loves to lick our plates clean after supper, ha ha.

Oh! One of my favorite subjects! These are my boys, Remi (marble tabby) and Sterling (tabby and white). They’re litter mates.

Remi is my sweet cuddler. He follows me all around the house and sleeps beside me every night. Sterling is the more adventurous one. He loves going outside (on his small dog tie out because I’m terrified of losing him) and digging books off the shelf and pushing ponies off the table.

and this is their baby sister, Bianca. We’ve had her about 8 months now. She was rescued from a farm along with her deaf brother. She’s very skittish most days. I’m hoping someday she’ll relax and be a normal, happy kitty.

*rolls up her sleeves* Let’s do this.

My very first pet was a Cockatiel my family has when I was 1 - I only know about him because I have a photo of me sitting on my potty and talking to the bird. My Mom does not remember his/her name (or the gender).

About the same time my Dad brought home a duckling he found on one of his construction sites. I loved that duck (Quackers) but she went to live at a local educational farm at a local park.

Then I got a white kitten, I name Snowball, from my uncle. Snowball was pregnant and had kittens of which we kept one. She was a gray and white tabby, my dad named her T.C. (The Cat)... Sadly Snowball passed away after an encounter with the outdoors. My family and I moved and we somehow ended up with a ginger tabby we named C.J. (Cat Junior). Both TC & CJ lived long full lives.

When I was in grade school I convinced my mom to let me get a rodent. I chose a gerbil, Ginger. After Ginger I got a Teddy Bear Hamster, Todd (from Fox and the Hound). Then about 10 years later I got another Teddy Bear Hamster we named Annie (Orphan Annie). I also had a little brindle lopped eared rabbit named Pippin (named after the hobbit for his big fluffy feet).

When I was 15 I had a difficult time with family issues. After 14 years of begging and every time I saw a dog I would ask for one, my parents finally agreed to let me get one. I had done a lot of research on pugs because they were my favourite breed. As I was hunting down a breeder (not as easy back then as it is now) my Mom’s friend from work had just had a new litter of Shih Tzu puppies. My mom asked if I wanted to go see them. I agreed reluctantly but convinced I would refuse to get one because I wanted a pug. Then I met the Mom and Dad of the pups and then the dang puppies. My heart sank and fell for a little black and white lady dog, she chose me. It was done. I had my first dog. I decided to name her Cleo, named after Pinocchio’s gold fish. I brought Cleo home on November 19, 1999 (I remember this date because three days before my best friend and I went to our very first without parents *NSYNC concert lol).

After we got Cleo, we soon got Oliver. He wasfrom the same breeder and was an “uh oh” litter of Cleo’s sister and her Dad. Lol dogs, am I right? My brother named Oliver after the kitten in Oliver and Company. We kept to a movie naming theme.

When it was time for me to graduate college and leave the nest, my mom wouldn’t let me take Cleo with me because she and Oliver were bonded. I was bitter, so my bestie and I went to look at a pug breeder. I fell in love with a little spunky pug they had named “Grumpy Bear.” I knew I needed him in my life in moment I met him - little did I know how much I truly did need him. I gave my deposit for him and returned a few weeks later (after moving into my new home with my roommate in the morning). We met at Tim Horton’s half way between my home and the breeder’s home, there in the car was my tiny black pug puppy drinking an Ice Cap. Yep. He was my dog. I took him home, he was quickly named Zephyr after the Zephyr competition team. Long story short, I’m a huge Heath Ledger fan and his role as Skip in Lords of Dogtown is one of my favourites. I also super love that movie, definitely a good watch for anyone. Anyways, Zephyr was my heart dog. He and I did literally everything together. He always came to work with me, he’d go to all my friends houses. He was such a great laid back smart but also dumb dog. He was just special and I still think of him daily.

When I moved to my first apartment on my own I noticed Zephyr seemed very lonely. He was a dog who was used to being around other animals as roommates always had their own pets. So, whena client came in with a litter of feral kittens to be gendered, I fell in love with a little blue eyed brown tabby. So, Zeph got his very own cat. I named him Carlisle after the city, not the dumb character. Sadly it turned out I am deathly allergic to Carlisle and he now lives with my brother and his fiancé. So I still see him and get to love on each other regularly.

As Zephyr got older and my family had to make the difficult decision to say goodbye to both Oliver (in 2016) and Cleo in (2017). We decided to start looking for another adult Shih Tzu. I had come across an add from a family who had recently purchased a Shih Tzu puppy and had quickly discovered how much work a puppy is. I went with my Mom to meet this little pup. Once again that darn little fluffball had us tied around her little paws the moment we saw her (we both cried a lot it was weird). We brought her home two days later, we decided to name her Clover in memory of Cleo & Oliver. Clover has been a whirlwind kind of dog. She’s a spunky little monster and we wouldn’t want her any other way. (An update as of this morning. She’s finally coming home from the emergency hospital on Thursday!!!!!!)

Then came my big lady Nova. While Nova came to us in a sad situation after loosing our first choice of the litter. Nova has been an amazing and wonderful lady and a great first dog for my friend. She’s a shared custody dog, so I do absolutely consider her as part of my pack.

And last but certainly not least. We have my precious gentle boy Fred (the name he came with). As you all know Fred was an adopted rescue I got after he came in to my clinic as a shelter neuter. I saw him, he cocked his head when I talked and he had me. I called the shelter and he was apart of the family two days later. Fred and I have bonded greatly over the last nine months and he’s taught me a lot about rescue animals. He’s my best little buddy and has certainly been good for me since loosing my Zephyr-dog. He’s just a happy dog who loves to love but still has his fears we are still working on with him (most revolve around grooming).

That’s it. That’s the story of all my pets. I will leave you with this obnoxiously adorable picture of Fred and Clover’s Christmas grooming photo.

@Tak Thanks! I love showing them off. :ponylove:
@Skybreeze I’m so glad to hear Clover’s doing better. I was just thinking about her the other day and realized I hadn’t read any recent updates about her. That was quite the long hospital stay, poor girl.

My best friend growing up was my farm bull dog BJ. He was a white no tailed bull dog that let me dress him up and feed him with a fork. Then came cracker my mix dog she was the best mom to her puppies. We got a dog we found at a park my sis named Jessy girl after the song she passed two years ago. BJ passed when I was 10 and cracker when I was 17. When I moved out on my own I got Desial my Great Dane he was my love he passed in 16. My current dog is a Corgy mix named Foxy Girl.
Now for cats
We had my sister buttons who was a sweet heart. My cat Twittle slept under the blacker with me. I got a tabby cat named Oscar after Twittle was killed. Sadly he got run over. That’s when I got Jazz my black and white fuzzy butt. Cat that loves only me and seem to only tolerate everyone else. Except my nieces he flats out hates them I think he just hates kids. He is around 14 years old and is just a grumpy old fart.

So many cute pics <3 We are getting some Triops on monday in the mail XD if that counts. I think they are kinda gross looking, but imagine a brine shrimp and a horseshoe crab had a baby it would be a triops. little aquatic creatures for the boys to keep an eye on (with help of course :) ).

Yeah I kinda agree with you on that. Congrats on your mini-trilobytes.

Thank you, @Tak for starting this cheerful thread!
My first pet as a child was a Spitz mix puppy, Misty. She unfortunately got run over when she was less than a year old. Next came a Cockapoo puppy, Heidi (nickname “Pooh”), who died when she was about 17 and I was 22. My family raised chickens from the time I was about 5 until we moved when I was 16. I loved getting a box of peeping chicks from the post office every spring!
Now on to cats! “Kit,” a calico long-hair, was a young cat who adopted my family when I was around 9 and died when I was about 20. When I was 16, I found black and white, short-haired Pencil when she was a starving kitten by the side of the road. She survived an attack by a wild animal, then died years later when she was about 12. When I met my husband, he had a calico, Emma, who passed when I was 38.
We now have two cats—Mishka and Molly! Mishka will turn 11 this summer and Molly is 7. Though she was itty bitty as a kitten, Mishka is now a large (NOT fat) cat. We got Molly when Emma died and she is short and round. Both are long-hairs and both are rescues. Molly is first below, then Mishka. <3 <3

Beautiful

Everyone has so many wonderful pets! My wife and I have two bunnies. They are so sweet and such little characters.

Starlight Glimmer is a white lionhead rabbit, but she only has one of the lionhead genes so she doesn't have a very fluffy mane. We of course call her GlimGlam!

Our second bunny is named SunBurst and we are in the process of adopting him right now. He is a Rex mix and his fur is the lovely cinnamon color. It's important for us to see if our bunnies will bond and be happy together. SunBurst (Sunny) is a medium sized rabbit so you can see he's twice the size of GlimGlam.

We rescued Starlight Glimmer last June from a mom who was giving her away on an app called "Nextdoor". We had been talking about getting a bunny and had to rescue her when we had the chance.

SunBurst we brought home on May 1st. He is the softest bunny I've ever petted. He's also an excellent jumper and loves to jump up on the couch with us to cuddle.

@Larkspur - Both your cats are beautiful. I do love me a good old domestic longhair. <3

@JennKitty85 - I love your bun-buns!! Sunburst looks like the Rex version on my little Pippin. Rabbits are so much fun and wonderful pets. I hope they bond together and stay out of bunny trouble (they can be very naughty). Although I’m sure it’s taken care of but the vet tech in me needs to say it, are both rabbits already fixed?

Sunburst is fixed....we actually got him before we could get an appointment for Glim Glam. It's been a little stressful, they spend most of the day separated. We've been flip flopping them so one hangs out in the downstairs bath with a baby gate and the other has the run of the living room. Glim Glam goes to get fixed next week. We are being very careful. I totally understand your concern. The rescue and our vet have been very helpful during the bast 10 days.

I've finally found the time to search my harddisk for good photos of my four girls.

The black torbie sisters are 16 years old, the one on the left is boss puss (even though she is the smallest and most lightweight) and she frequently makes sure the others don't forget that.

The Norwegian Forest Cat, she's nine yo and a real diva, but at the very bottom of the pecking order, much to her chagrin. :lolpony::

Then our blue short haired girl, she turns ten at the end of this month (we almost share the same birthday :)).
