Taking Advantage of a Good Sale & Being Hated for it

So, this morning I went to a closeout sale at a store. (Store itself is not closing, just the video game area).

The store had a lot of games for great prices. I have been periodically going back & forth getting a few games for myself. Recently the prices were so great I decided to get a bunch to try for myself, give as gifts, trade, & sell (I'll be honest, the majority is to trade, sell, & keep for me lol).

Now, I decided this yesterday after having gone & seeing all the games. I head there today with my parents who told me yesterday that after I found the sale this angry looking sales associate working there immediately headed to the game sections & took a few for herself. She was there this morning. She watched me so angrily while I took a bunch of games, all while talking to a sale associate next to her (who was very nice to me). We overhear her say, "They were here yesterday buying games.". At first thought I guess she wanted these games but they had been here on good clearance for over a month. I dismiss it as her just being gossipy.
We wait on line to pay & unfortunately get stuck with her instead of the other register. As I walk up she whispers quite loudly, "Jesus...". And if that weren't rude enough, she takes her sweet time entering all the games in. On purpose. As we're paying my parents realize they have a point card for the place, they say this aloud. The lady immediately hits the print receipt button on the register & tells us we will have to wait to get the points. Wait for the next transaction to finish that is. Which is a big one. So we stand there for around 10-15 minutes waiting. When the transaction is done, she takes my mothers point card & puts the points on it in seconds. We had to wait almost 20 minutes for something that only needed a few seconds to be done. I'm pretty sure the lady was clearly doing all of that out of spite.

How many of you have had run ins with rude sales associates when taking advantage of a sale? Especially when you were doing nothing to really provoke them.

The store's not actually closing, they're just having a closeout sale on video games because they won't be selling them anymore. (I realize now I worded that first sentence oddly, fixed)
The lady just seems to hate the world and doesn't want to do her job (I came in to return an unopened item the first day she rang me up & she told me they don't do that even though the receipt says it. She then called the manager up who refunded me happily). So I guess she especially decided to take out her anger at the world on us.

I can actually understand hating the world & your job too but one should always be professional when at work..
Not even when all the blockbusters or circuit citys were closing did I meet someone so rude.

I would have been furious if someone did that to me, and I would have reported all of it to their manager.

It's possible that they were bitter if the store was closing and they'd have to *gasp* look for another job, but that's their responsibility and your happiness as a customer shouldn't have to be compromised because of that.

How they treat customers going out of their job can still affect their job record. A customer should always feel welcomed in an establishment, and should never feel like a bother.

And if they truly wanted the stuff you bought for themselves, that's just stupid. Like you said they had plenty of opportunity to snatch it up, and a customer shouldn't have to feel guilty about picking up product from a company.

And a 20 minute wait? Don't even get me started. I'd have some words for them if they did that to me. Especially if my kids were left waiting because of it.

I'm so sorry you had to go through this~ stuff like this ruins my day if I experience it. :madpony:

Regardless of her motive, her behavior was atrocious. Her job, whether she likes it or not, is to serve the customer. If she doesn't want to perform these duties, the door is probably well marked and she can hike her nasty little snark-butt right out of it.

She may well treat many customers like this. Make sure you call and speak to the manager about it. They may have no idea of her actions. No one wants a rude tool working at their store and ruining sales.

I wish you could just bite people like that. I'd be givin' people rabies allllll day.

We were in quite the hurry, so all we could do was just audibly complain about the situation as we were standing there/leaving.

Oddly enough I was the only one not furious. The situation was more upsetting than infuriating to me. I had just woken up, & the day was just ruined for me after that. Couldn't even be happy about the great deals I got. Just spent all day at work thinking about how rude she was. =_=

After reading all your responses I don't think I should take this lying down so I will definitely give the store a call & express my feelings on the matter.
Thanks for the reassuring words. They've made me feel better. :)
I wish you could just bite people like that. I'd be givin' people rabies allllll day.
Hehehe XD Boy do I wish this too.

As someone who works retail part time I can assure you that it is stressful in dealing with those sorts of things, however she just sounded like she was just an obnoxious person in general. No matter how stressed out I am in dealing with customers sometimes, I would never act like that. But on the other side I had some lady complain to my manager one time cause she asked where something was and I told her exactly where to find it and pointed straight at it since it was like right in front of the pharmacy I work in. She complained cause I just told her and pointed. I mean.. the spot couldn't be any more clear if it had bit her in the butt. If she still had trouble after I told her and pointed, then I would have gone out and shown her but it wasn't nessecary. And then I was working at my computer and she came over to ask me a question and I looked her directly in the eye and she gave a huff and walked off and then she complained about me. I swear sometimes people no matter if they're associate or customer just live to be rude a d miserable. And I'm sorry to say that my dad is one of them. I won't even mention the scene he caused in the Verizon store last summer. -.-

Iono if its the same but I know at our mall if you come dressed in jean and a tee shirt say with mlp on it there this rude lady in the shoe dept of Belks. She will follow you around and if you ask for a shoe she will say I am not sure if we have it or you could afford it.

I did a experiment one time where I came in dress as above and she was so rude and she did not really want to ring me up when I paid and she was double checking my belks card my ID everything for a 15.00 pair of shoes.

Two days later I came dress up well for me in dress pants and a nice top and bought another pair of shoes I wanted. The lady was so sweet it was sicking.

I have worked in retail before and it is stressful but still you have to try and be civil when working with people. The lady doing that to you was rude I would have reported her but that is just me. I tried to report the lady at belks but nothing was done she still there and is just as snooty as ever.

There was no reason for her to be so rude to you and yours like that. I know working can be difficult, but to be angry for someone coming in and buying things? I'm confused you usually will be praised for helping to get rid of sale items by your uppers. Plus like you said they have been on sale for a while now, so if she wanted anything she could of gotten whatever it was. People can be so confusing.

I've had anxiety attacks over *insert expletive* people like that. Good for you for keeping your cool and waiting patiently. I would keep buying games, wave them in her face, and laugh at her just to **** her off. Then I would refuse to let her ring me up and wait for the next available person. People like that really get under my skin.

Wow what a jerk! She was probably just upset she didn't get the games herself. Next time you should tell her manager about her. She had no right to treat you the way she did.

ugh, don't let her get you down. I dunno if she was having a bad day ( no one's perfect, so it coulda been a onetime thing) but still that's no excuse to treat a PAYING CUSTOMER that way.

I remember some fed-ex guy knocking on the door while I was giving one of the dogs a bath and I had to sign for it but couldn't, because my hands were literally full of wet, squirmy, unhappy pooch, now granted I couldn't hear much over the water and scrabbly paws and barking, but the guy went out of his way to come back a little later and apologize for being rude (because of all the noise I didn't even realize he was being rude) and that was pretty cool, that he came back.

if she continues on that way next time you go report her cranky butt. if she was upset that you were snagging stuff she wanted then boo hoo, she shoulda got it sooner herself. first come, first served after all
