Hello guys! I've finally gotten started on my first custom pony! I'll post pics of my progress here ^^
I'll start with the original sketch as you can see it here:

I already ordered the hair and the re-rooting tool (hopefully it works) and I have started the body already.
Here's the first coat! (Sorry for the cut off body, haha. I'm trying to paint it first so i'll have it done and then think on how to connect it back seamlessly)

(also excuse the messy background, haha.)
What do you think the next step should be? Should the body have some markings? (I may do some, I have no idea, haha.) I plan to use nail (what's the word?)...stuff for nails to give it a slight steampunk theme. Not all that good at modeling stuff and since it's my first custom, I'll take it easy for now.
For this custom I am using a DaisyJo pony, seen below: (Pic taken from terapeak)

I'll keep you updated on the transformation and how it comes along ^^'

You're really good at drawing! I can't wait to see what you come up with for your custom pony!

My advice is, make sure that you paint thin layers (especially of white) paint, otherwise it dries with loads of brush streaks and thick chunks of goo-y paint.

Also, make sure that you completely seal the paint job on the pony BEFORE rerooting her and adding gems, etc. To her! I've tried to reroot and glue little gems/jewelry to painted dolls and ponies before sealing, and it never ends well.

Good luck with your custom pony!

Ooookay...after 3-4 or so coats it started looking better but sadly, as good as the acrylics are I'll have to buy new ones for my next custom, (whenever I'll get to doing it, since this is the only pony that I have and I don't really want to use my G4 ponies since I like the bodies of these most) because with the paint being so old it has dried bits in it, kind of ruining it :/
Hopefully with the hair rooted in and more details it will be less apparent.

Thank you so much! Funny how just as I was posting this the page told me there was a new message and...it's from way earlier but I didn't see it. RIP
Sadly I don't have any sealant. I guess you could call this one a try...sort of. Do you know any good sealants for ponies? I don't have the means to get MR Super Clear at the moment, nor the equipment to use it. (those fumes are scary!)
I guess I'll do whatever I can on the paint job and hope for the best. I'll try sanding down the biggest bits on the body and the face but honestly that is it.

I do not use Mr. Super clear either, due to the toxicity of it. I go to Hobby lobby and purchase the $3.00 brush on acrylic sealers from the paints section.

Ah, alright! Well, I suppose Mr.Super Clear is for the more experienced users, in the OOAK Doll Industry ^^''
I'll have to look for the types of sealants that I can get over here. #the struggles of an unknown country. I definitely can't get anything in my town, haha. It's like...really not known and nothing good ever gets over here <:')

Yeah I've found that I've had to replace a lot of my acrylics this year. It's worth it to just toss out the stressful crap paint and start fresh again

If it's been a couple or a few years it becomes time to retire certain pigments

Also sometimes gesso barely goes on in first coat. Leave it anyway, let it dry and keep building up

The more dry layers you slowly build up until it is eventually solid, the smoother the results

I've never used it, but many people say that Testors dullcoat works wonderfully. I believe that it can be purchased online, and cones in brush on or spray form.

Updaaate~!
My hair and my rerooting tools arrived! I was pretty scared at first but I did some test holes and it works wonderfully! I can't wait to get started!

I hope this will work ^^
