Pony Split Ends?

Hey guys, I need some advice.

I was just adjusting some of the ponies in my G3 display and I noticed something that I've never seen before. I was trying to straighten up Jazz Matazz's hair with a quick brushing when I saw that she had tons of split ends that were literally falling off as I brushed her. I already knew she had dry ends, but I didn't know it was possible for them to just break off!

I stopped brushing and started shaking her gently, and even more pieces fell off! The damage isn't really noticeable, but now I'm worried to even touch her hair because I don't want it to all break off. I have several ponies with much dryer hair that don't even have this problem, so I'm not sure what to do. Is there a way to help strengthen her hair to prevent more damage?

Any help is appreciated!

Let me guess - it's the pink hair that's breaking off right? This is a common problem with the Avon and Dollar General ponies that have that particular shade of pink. I don't know that there's anything that can prevent it and once it starts all you can really do is rehair. :sadpony:

Unfortunately it is mostly her pink hair, but I've also noticed that a few yellow and green strands have been breaking as well. I don't really plan on messing with her hair too much from now on, but would applying heavy conditioner prevent at least some further damage?

Gosh that is awful. If it is common I would imagine there isn't much that can be done other than to not brush her hair. I bought a Disney Doll once and had to wig her because every bit of her hair broke at the scalp and fell off. So, I believe this can certainly happen and I didn't feel like rerooting her. I just used a wig I had on hand. She looks great now. So, rehairing sounds like a good option to make her look nice again. I have that pony. I need to look at mine and see how she is. She was never played with.

Yes, it can happen with the other colors too; it's just that the pink seems to be the most prone to it. I had it happen to a Tea Lily. All her pink hair broke off leaving her with just her green stripes. I went ahead and removed that too thinking I'd rehair her in alternate colors but still haven't gotten around to doing it. My collection Tea Lily is fine so far, but I haven't checked on the others that are prone to it recently.

I don't think anyone's been able to figure out exactly what causes it; so, it's hard to say whether conditioning the hair will do anything helpful. It shouldn't hurt unless the remaining hair is about to break off anyway in which case any handling will make matters worse.

I wonder if you could phone Hasbro and complain? I know they sometimes replace faulty dolls. Maybe they do the same for ponies? They used to with G1s back in the day.

Not for a retired generation. They couldn't.
