So, as we all know over the years a pony’s plastic deteriorates and discolours.

Today I was looking through my FB Market Place and found a new in box Pirate RD Flip and Whirl (or whatever is called). And was kind of triggered that her plastic has already discoloured so much.

Do I still want her, yes. I’m a crazy pony collector so naturally yes I want to have this mib mainly because these gals, for some reason, are always coloured on or hair is too much to save or stickers are gone. BUT I am so irritated that there’s already so much discolouration on a toy that not even 2 years old yet.

It brings me back to how the 35th Anniversary ponies, and how people are seeing issues with them already too.

You would think that this day, with all the technology at our finger tips. Toy companies could figure out how to prevent this from happening on a toy that hasn’t had a long shelf life yet. For serious. So frustrating.

Hmmm, do you think it was just sun damage possibly? Maybe she was just in a really poor place and the plastic package made it worse? Such a shame though, plastic breakdown is evil :( I hate when my G1's start to get that sticky feeling. Gotta wonder how they'll look in another 40 years?!

The G4s have just has so many quality issues from day 1. Feathermay and her infamous mismatched head (which seems to get progressively worse after time, it seems) is a sterling example. I understanding trying to cut corners, but flat shoddy product is unforgivable. I wish they'd address their plastics division and get them back up to speed.

Imagine the squishy toys like Fash'ems in a decade or two. They'll be horrible puddles of goo.

See that was my first thought too, but there’s no fading on the box it’s self. I hate the sticky ponies too BUT I’d expect that from a 30+ year only toy.

Poor Feathermay. Mine is in perfect condition thankfully and she was a thrift store find!! But I do take her down when I dust off the ol’ gals and make sure things are still good. So I wonder if it’s just batches of plastic that is bad or how they manufacture some colours.

I think it’s partially to do with the G4’s being a harder plastic. The G2s suffer similar head/body or leg/body discolouration and they are also a harder plastic than G1 or 3 (and the G2 discolouration started early, as well). There must be some difficulty with getting the dye to set in that type of vinyl.

That's ridiculous. I'm sorry it happened so quickly.
