Pony fails?

Over the 30 years of MLP, we have done so many mistakes by collecting (some of us anyway)

Please post your fails like in customizing, buying, selling or restoring.

My recent fail was when I just passed on a Rainbow Flash with no frizz for 1.50 while I was looking for an upgrade *facepalm*

My biggest fail was donating all my childhood ponies during a moment of self-consciousness. I thought, "I am a teenager now and I need to act like a grownup and give up childish things!" so I donated most of my ponies. Biggest pony regret ever. At least I kept a few. And I'm taking them to my grave.

Been there done that. Seriously!!!!! if I saw myself as a teenager I would of kicked myself or bopped myself on the head for being so stupid. I appreciate ponies more that is the only thing I could say. I wanna take a baby surprise with me to my grave. I plan to give my collection to my daughter to keep then she can decide what she will keep. ugh so sad now. I bet most will go to funeral costs. I gotta stop myself on such a depressing subject.:sadpony:

I did the most stupidest and saddest thing ever! I got rid of most of my g3 ponies to a 3-year old girl. Since my mom is friends with her mom I was hoping she would help look for the ponies because I thought ponies were to babyish for me (btw this was like a year ago) but now I adore them. Well, I have none of them back and only 8 remain in my collection. I regret making that decision and hopefully one day I'll get them back. But every time I think about them I get sad . I'm never doing that again. Even when I grow out of ponies(which probably won't happen) I'll still keep them

For some reason I have no memory of my childhood ponies, even though my mother can prove which ones I had. Initially I didn't think I'd really been into ponies as a kid. The only one I remembered having was Minty. But my mother heard me telling my bf this when we were talking about my current collecting and she cut in to set the record straight.

To be clear: my mother knows -nothing- about MLP and could not have made this up. She was actually able to name Gusty, Red Roses, Firefly, Sherbet, Tabby and Shady, in addition to the Minty I remembered.

A more recent clumsiness fail was that I was at WalMart last weekend and had picked up Charm Wings Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. I ended up needing to grab something else from the toy section and on my way back Fluttershy slipped out of my arms and slid under a display where I could not pick her back up. "No problem." I figured. I'd seen another Fluttershy back there anyway. I grabbed what I needed, picked up "Fluttershy" and paid for my things. When I got home I discovered that Fluttershy had miraculously transformed into Honey Rays, whom I already have. D'oh!

Using Welder ' s Glue to glue heads on my customs back in 2007 x.x

Taking on too many custom pony trades in 2008 and ending up with a over draft statement from the shipping costs

I'd say trying to sell my customs after that, and during my 2nd year of customizing.... but a sailor scout commission project was so worth putting myself out there

1.I bought in my early collector years Twinkler that was totally brown for 15e! :O :( I though she was some special... in the end just fated in colors -.- (buyer advertised it as special, HTF). Now she still waits that I will make her some custom pony. Now I know to do my research before buying.

2.I passed very good deal of Dutch Baby Dolphin because I forgot to bid... aaaarrgggghhh

3.I tried to clean highlighter marks from mommy sweet celebration but ended up losing all the colors from those highlight spots.. Ye, highlight marks gone, but so is the ponys color too.. second aaaarrrgggghhhh

Not only did I customize a yellow Totsy fakie - which I didn't realize are quite sought after - but I also customized it into a hideous Mimic...mimic. It's been sitting in my bait box for the past six years, hoping that I'll redeem it someday.

@ Marble Dragon - I did the same thing with my large CareBear plushes! But I donated them to a church project for homeless/poor children, so at least they went to great homes. ♥

1. Letting my mother donate all my ponies when I was a teenager
2. Getting more ponies but then selling them in a garage sale
3. Not looking closely enough at a photo of Baby Sunset to realize that she had a major hair cut to her tail before I bought it. Totally my bad.

But without the mistakes, we cannot learn :)

Like many others, my biggest mistake was giving up my childhood ponies. If I had a time machine I'd go back and save them all from myself.

I also regret not buying more G2 ponies 10-15 years ago when they were unpopular and cheap. And not buying more of the play sets I wanted back when shoppig was cheap.

When I first started collecting I did not know values and spent 25.00 plus shipping on a baby cotton candy. What a total fail that was. I am almost embarrassed to admit it. Then I tried to sunfade my only Argentina pony and burned her. Oh and selling my first collection for on 55.00. I spent 300.00 on them. Good grief... Honestly, I am going to find my rock now. Bye..tula has left the building.

Bought a G1 pillowcase online, it was mailed in a padded envelope. Took scissors to the corner to open it without thinking...it was folded up inside...think about when you make snowflakes :(

Oh no

I hope you saved it anyway to use the graphics at least in projects?

There was this SUPER CUTE and well-made custom baby Fluttershy plushie and the bidding started at $0.99 presumably to attract customers... I watched it obviously! THEN I FORGOT TO BID! arrrrghhh! No one else bid on it and it was relisted! Then once I watched it again it went up to over $100! DOUBLE ARRGH!

Ignoring some of the early 80s Ponies releases thinking there'd be plenty of time to get them later. I ended up having to pay through the nose or just not getting them. Giving Ponies away trying to spread pony love only to find out they bunged them. I dunno. My life is one big fail. Sigh...

*hugs*

And *hugs* to all who made mistakes :(
