I thought I’d share about a pickup I made yesterday.
I was searching Facebook marketplace (as I do when bored) this week. I came across a lot that someone was selling for “charity.” I contacted the seller because I was interested in how much they wanted for the lot of fairly common ponies but they had a birthflower girl I wanted. The price wasn’t cheap but they were raising money for the MS Foundation of Canada.
Since this is obviously very close to home for me. I told her I would buy it from them. I made the 1hr drive to pick up these ponies. I knocked on the door and her daughter (who was selling her old toys to raise money opened the door). I told her I was there to buy the ponies, she came back with a huge box and I handed her my money and left.
Later on last night her mom messaged me again here is what she said:
“Thank you so much for your generous donation. You have no idea how much this means to us right now. My brother has recently been diagnosed with MS and my daughter has been very affected by his diagnosis. With your extra donation my daughter not only met her donation goal but exceeded it. Thank you so much! You’ve unknowingly brought our family joy in a dark time.”
Because of that I had to respond and told her my and my mother’s story of our own fight with MS and I was just happy to see a little girl raising funds to help the fight. I have since gone for coffee and offered my support to this family and met with her brother to reassure him that a life with MS certainly isn’t easy, but you still have your life to live and it’s not a death sentence. (He was diagnosed with the same type as myself which is the best to have if you get it.)
It’s funny how these little pony toys can bring people together and create lasting bonds in the least expected places.
Anyways I thought my friends here might enjoy and appreciate this story. It’s certainly made me love ponies all that much more and made me think a lot.
And for the curious, here’s the box (I still haven’t unpacked it):
