Hello! I hope you are all having a great week. Recently, I have purchased two g2 ponies still in their boxes for a low price. However, i think i see why now... the boxes have a lot of dirt on them, and some has started to get inside the plastic part of the box with the pony. One of the ponies is not fully attached to its card, and that one seems a little dirty on the inside. The thing that worries me most is that I can’t tell if the dirt on the boxes is mildew/mold. I didnt plan to open them, but do you think i should, due to the condition, and then just give the ponies a good scrub? I am scared of anything spreading to my other ponies, and they have already been near some of them... I will attach a photo! Thank you so much for reading!

The pink one is already loose, so you may as well. Maybe give the other one a little longer. If it is spreading your going to have to. If it seems as if its not, then trust your gut. Your girls are very pretty. Especially Petal Blossom. Such awesomely pink hair!

Thanks for your reply :)
I was considering probably opening the half-opened one since it is getting dirt inside, but am hoping I don’t have to open the Petal Blossom! I have a loose one of her because she was my only g2 pony as a kid, and i really loved her!

I agree that you should open Morning Glory, she's already loose. Does the dirt smell like mildew or mold? There must be a way to tell... I would hold off on opening Petal Blossom though. It would be good to preserve her MOC as long as you can. If it is mold then maybe you should open her.

I will look into it more as far as the mold...at first I just assumed it was dirt, but the fact that it is kind of spotty looking is what worries me. There’s no smell, luckily! Thanks for your input :)

Do you guys think that if I open Morning Glory, is it worth keeping the back card? It would hurt not to, but I’m not sure what people usually do in these situations with the dirty backing.

If you think it’s mold or mildew on the back card, you can microwave it for a few seconds and that will kill the mold/mildew (the marks will remain, but the spores will be dead). Obviously this only works for the decarded backcard, since the pony will have metal in her and will kill your microwave. However, you can give that card a gentle wipe with some vinegar and that will also kill the mildew.

If there’s no smell, I think there’s a good chance it’s just dirt. I’m my experience, you can smell mildew pretty quickly (I’ve even had ponies that were clean themselves that had picked up the smell from being stored in a damp basement. )

That would be quite a story to tell. The pony that killed my microwave. :lolpony:

Thank you!! I think I will do that and save the back card! I have a bottle of vinegar handy at home already. I love that stuff! I forgot how good it is at killing mold. :)
