What would have to be some of the most outrageous price you have seen someone selling a pony or a for a few? I know people want to make money, but a collector wouldn't pay some of these prices up front. Some I find are way too much to be asking (imo) This is in Canadian prices btw.

Mine would have to be someone selling G1 Sea Breeze - My Little Wiki for $147. She had her shell, but I would never pay that up front for her.

I couldn't see the rest of the tags as they were in a glass case and prices on the feet. But I also did see...

They also had a Moonstone for $30 dollars . I could see 10 for a mint Moonstone but 30? That is quite a price hike. What are your opinions? Have you seen anything like a 30 dollar Cotton Candy or worse, a Peachy?

I forgot to mention some guy was selling a gross yellowing parasol and Twilight on card for 80 dollars a piece at a convention once too.

Oh, my! I have some of these stories... Someone was selling a Rapinzel for $200 in person. I a thusly bought her :blushpony:

The worst is this guy that alepways goes to toy shows in my area. He tries to sell common bait ponies for $30 - anything from a yellowed Moondancer with no tail, a Blue Belle with pen marks all over, and of course, a discolored baby sea pony for $50. I told him they were really overpriced for the condition they were in and he said they were "vintage collector's items". Sigh...

This wasn't that bad, but it wasn't the best at all. I bought a very baity bluebell from a charity shop for £1. She had what looked like nail varnish or pen all over her, mismatched head and body, yellowing on her hooves and ear tips, pindot, basically she was a mess. Funnily enough I'd bought a beautiful bluebell a week earlier for half the price. It isn't as bad as the other ones above.

Facepalm :surprisepony:
Yeah I've seen similar things, as an old relative of mine used to say 'they think folks are people'

Well...i plan to save up almost $100 to get a Mimic for my collection. would that be outrageous? Also, I saw Rapunzel go for $1000 one time, and $600 another time. To whoever said they paid $200 for her, WAY TO GO YOU GOT A GREAT PRICE!!!

Ringlet, online that price is perfectly in line with what she is going for, the more people competing for a pony the higher the price can climb. The more local you get though the less expensive prices should be because of less competition (yardsales and thrifts and someone selling out of their garage should be the least expensive). Mimic on ebay with collectors all over the country or world competing for the winning bid, vs. someone selling out of his garage to locals, odds are if I don't buy local ponies if they are charging ebay prices, they won't sell, at least not for a long time.

Exceptions for "local is cheaper" are collector shows. But there sellers are paying well for the booth to sell, and plenty of collectors (and people attending to buy nostalgia) are after ponies and they sell just fine. :) The show I bought a table at I sold a large number, even ones I priced high as I would have happily kept them in my collection otherwise.

Some of these prices are kinda crazy o_o Yeah I was meaning in person prices like at a store or someone somewhere not online. Online prices are crazy nuts and some don't even sell for the asking price.

Peppermint Truly - That is a really goo deal for Rapunzel! Great find :) But,
50 for a dis-coloured sea pony? LOL
They had a surf rider at that store with her float for 25 and she seemed pretty good so that wasn't too bad. But 50? Dream on XD I hate that SO much when they use "vintage" as some kind of excuse to charge outlandish prices.

Crumpet- lol that is crazy! I'm surprised they would even sell that.

ladyEtaine- Some people aren't even in the same world.

Yeah I've seen ratty old barbies that aren't even that old in 'antique' stores for quite a lot. Many in pretty bad shape and not even unusual types. *rolleyes*

Well a month back I went to this person's shop. I saw them selling ponies for outragous prices. They wanted about 100 bucks for a dream castle but it didn't even have majesty as the queen. I wasnt able to tell if the dream castle had all of its accessories either. I think they also wanted about 20 bucks for a beat baity up streaky. I really felt bad leaving the ponies there but they were just way too much money. I think the shop was way over priced on most their stuff. Needless to say I won't be going back. :(

Wait. Wait. 200. For Punzie?!
Ergghh. My feels! :shockpony:

WTG Peppermint Truly! I wouldn't have hesitated either!

What astounds me, on outragous prices, is the condition of the things these people try to sell. I mean, the most you do when you have something "rare" is try to make it look as nice as possible and present it in a manner that generates interest.

There used to be a market close to where I lived with my parents; we'd go every weekend and every weekend there'd be this snarky seller who'd sell the most common, chewed up, hairless, cancerous ponies for hundreds and hundreds of Danish Kroner. That's $35-40 ad upwards. I swear, he had a smaller box full of Cotton Candys, all completely messed up yet he wanted $45 per pony o_O

I always walked right past him and continued to other booths that usually had ponies (and from what I heard, they too blankly refused to sell them to aforementioned guy as they didn't condone of his prices). Let's just say these other booths have gotten me hundreds of things for the same price as he asked for one..

I live in Ohio, and I went to the toys time forgot today. They had a Cotton Candy there for $ 20.00. She had what looked like aminor pen mark on her side, but still. $ 20.00.

I saw a Paradise estate on craigslist for $75.00 with no little bits n' bobs.
I thought eh I would spend a lot out fitting it.may as well buy one that is near complete.

then I saw that same one on ebay for $100 + $75 Shipping.
And some one bought it.. I was amazed.

I've seen a another craigslist listing of 2 sundance and apple jack for $30.
they where nasy dirty with hair cuts.

:madpony:

Baby Heartthrob - mint in box
Prize: 435 dollars o_O

I really felt bad leaving the ponies there but they were just way too much money. I think the shop was way over priced on most their stuff. Needless to say I won't be going back. :(

I feel bad walking by Ponies in need too. There's no way you can go bankrupt saving them though. I dunno why people don't do their homework and see that all Ponies are not million dollar collectibles.

What astounds me, on outragous prices, is the condition of the things these people try to sell. I mean, the most you do when you have something "rare" is try to make it look as nice as possible and present it in a manner that generates interest.

This surprises me as well. If you're selling something, at least make sure it's clean and presentable. And if you're concerned about damaging it and decide to sell "as Is", knock some money off the price! Why do they think people want to pay mint prices for baits?

I guess if somethings old they just put whatever price tag they think will make the seller money. I know I payed for my share of over priced ponies in my lifetime. The last time I bought a bunch of ponies recently. One pony had an item I needed so I decided to buy her. I gave the pony to my daughter because she has brown age spots.

I just paid $30 for Tickle on Ebay, granted online. I was thinking that was a lot for a pony either online or in person considering the pony was only something like $5-6 in the first place. However, since she was one of the first ponies I ever got and started me collecting ponies, she was one of them that was taken, the new one was in basically mint condition and came with the original ribbon and brush, it was worth it to me.

There's this antique mall near me and inside they have a shelf full of ponies and fakies. They get them off eBay lots I guess and then they put them on the shelves without even cleaning them or brushing their hair! Any pony with with tinsel in their hair or a 3D symbol is $15-$20, and then it goes down by size; they don't take generation into consideration. They price the fakies the same way! They also have all of these ratty McDonalds ponies for $2-$3 each!

Oh wow, @Sweet Tooth! I never saw a pony that expensive just by the tinsel/3D symbol.

The most pricey pony? This girl at the flea market wanted to sell me this fakie marked 1985 FOR 10 BUCKS?!

I just saw a local post here for 30 G3's for $250 which was pretty hilarious to me. I didn't see anything special in the lot.
