For as long as I can remember, my PeriWinkle has had a really long tail. She once belonged to my older sister and from what I remember, her tail was just loose and seemed to grow when brushed... even though she is not a Brush ‘n’ Grow pony.

Her tail is longer than my Lily Lightly’s hair and she is a long hair pony.
PeriWinkle’s tail is quite thin yet soft and brushable but strands do occasionally come out. To keep it safe I have to wrap it around both of her back legs.
If I was to fix this, I’m assuming it’ll involve beheadding her... but how do I fix it? This is the only pony I have that has this kind of tail. I don’t really have immediate plans to fix it because it feels kind of unique but it is loose and if the day comes where it falls out, I am hoping to have some idea of how to fix her.

I love her long tail! How unique.

Yeah, it might be loose in the tail plug where the two strands of hair got pulled in one direction making it like a SLH...I have fixed this in some of my childhood ponies by removing the head, taking out the tail, and then replacing the metal plug part ( which is probably rusty if it is loose) with plastic zip ties. Just be careful when taking off the head as to not tear the plastic...good luck with your restoration!

Quite a lot of my ponies have some tail rust that I need to clean up, I didn't know rust could do something like this
Thanks for the advice!

No problem! I forgot to mention this earlier but it is sometimes easier to remove the head when you run hot water or blow a hair dryer on hot near the neck to loosen the glue...Have fun! It is so satisfying when you finish!

I agree with hot water and a butter knife (no sharp edge) can help, too. Rust remover works if there's rust stains. Pictures please when you're done! I adore seeing ponies given the love they deserve.

I'll be fixing her tail if it ever falls out but this advice is helpful anyway. Thanks!
When you remove the head of a pony who hasn't got a head that turns, does it have to be glued on again after or will it be free turning?

A lot of my ponies have tail rust and my Divine Shine ponies are the worst for it. Do you know if it's a certain type of rust remover that should be used with ponies in case of plastic damage? I've see posts before about the Divine Shines eating their glitter naturally and my two (Glitterbelle and Flower Garland) have still got al of theirs. I don't know if the rust remover would trigger anything

As stated above, best way to remove a pony head with with a lot of patience and hot (usually a bath in boiling) water (obviously use caution/adult supervision for our younger members ;) ). Some pony’s glue is very secure and does require intervention with things like a warm/hot butter knife or a prying tool you can get from craft stores. The last G3 I took a head off of took me about two hours and lots of boiling. I know some people have also had success with stubborn glue with 100% acetone (nail polish remover) to get it loose.

Once the head is off, there’s no need to glue it again. You’ll just have a new pony with a turning head. ;)

As far as tail rust is concerned, you can use a rust remover (something like CLR) but just remember any time you get that pony wet (cleaning etc) the rust will still come back so long as you leave washers and metal clamps in place. If the tails have rust, I always remove heads and all metal bit and replace using zip ties. This is safest way to prevent more rust from occurring.

Having a pony who’s head didn’t move before and then moving about would mean there are more ways to pose them for photos. That’a good to know, taking heads off those kinds have worried me in case they will be damaged. Thank you!
It’ll keep an eye out for some CLR kind of rust remover, some of my tail rust is so bad it goes down the tail
