As a lot of you know, I have Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I’ve always had a difficult time sleeping (falling asleep and staying asleep). I typically only sleep about an hour or two a night if I’m lucky.

In the last two weeks I’ve had less than eight hours. My doctors don’t know what more to do for me and frankly I’m super frustrated. So I was wondering, what do you guy do before bed to calm yourself and relax? Get ready to drift off into dreamland.

(Also, quick side note: my cousin had her baby today!! She had a little boy who they’ve named Benjamin. I’m so excited and can’t wait to meet him when they’re ready for visitors. She doesn’t live far from me at all so I will be around a lot more. Lol)

I'm bad with falling asleep unless I've had a bad sleep night before. I end up watching youtube videos and laying with my eyes closed. If the video is heavy on the audio, I'll be asleep soon. I also have mint tea before bed.
(And congrats!)

I have insomnia too many sleeps less nights.
I tend to drink hot tea and watch YouTube or movies or paint. Painting really winds me down. I work on my ponys. I like to paint my cuddle ponies at this time.

I watch YouTube/Netflix/movies too but I find it winds me up more.

I’ve tried everything from incents/oils, white noise, music, audio books, reading, getting out of bed and doing something. Then my biggest issue is I get involved and sleep then is far from my mind. Lol

Insomnia really is rough. I'm sure you've heard every trick in the book, but it sounds like something less mindful/thought-provoking would help somewhat. I can get too involved in something if I'm doing something with my hands or mind.

Bob Ross video's help me out sometimes

Oh, I hate insomnia. I go through periods off and on. Although, I have never actually tried this during insomnia, but I can tell you chamomile has worked on me in the past. I tend not to respond at all to most drugs, but I recall one time having this tea and then fighting to stay awake. Also, the Banff tea company has a tea called Knock Yourself out that is a best seller. I have some here, but I've yet to try it.

Other things which might be helpful - Yoga, reading, writing down any nagging thoughts, or to do lists.

I have severe depression and PTSD. So sleep and I are strangers. I would so desperately love to lie down and sleep like a normal person. I wish I could give you advice, but sadly, I seem to have no ideas on the matter. I did have a friend swear by CBD oil (which is cannabis oil minus the THC, so it's legal most places). She told me it would 100% work. I put out 90 bucks on a bottle of the supposedly 'really effective stuff' and nuthin'. What a bummer. I think I've tried every suggestion ever given to me by any kind person who was willing to give advice. And the more sleep deprived I get, the more wacked out and confused I become.

I guess what I'm getting at is I will follow this thread like a dog, because maybe someone will suggest something that will work! :D

My doctor actually wrote me a prescription for CBD and THC oils for my sleep, anxiety, depression and MS related issues. But I’m still waiting on it to arrive to me. Looks like my provinces law against it will be lifted before I even get my prescribed medications. Geeze. Always my luck. Lol

I,m also an Insomniac....
Tried everything under the sun, from herbal remedies to sleeppills from the doctor, only to get a benzo addiction...
But!!!!!
I use Seroquell (Quetiapine) every night for the past 8 years and since then I never had a sleepless night anymore!
Seroquell is a medication what is being used in high dosage for an anitidote for psychosis, but in low dose it gives you a sleepy feeling and 30/45 minutes after I take my 450 mg, I'm sleeping like a Rose!

Seroquel helped me sleep, too. I became the hunger monster on it though. Hungry all the time. I gained so much. I was on it as an anti psychotic, which it didn't work for anyway. I actually have hyposomnia. My body requires more sleep than an average person. I get insomnia all the time, but will eventually hit that brick wall and drop no matter where I am. I usually can't sleep more than 3 hours straight no matter what.

Yes that is a little bit of a downside of Seroquel, the snack track as I called it! But in 2013 I got a Gastric Bypass because due to me weighing 120 kilograms due to a faulty Thyriod gland....and I was also diagnossed with Fibromyalgia, so I thought I do the GBP in the hope I have less pain......But nope...that didn't work!
But last year after a lot of testing and a sweet and understanding Rheumatologiste...She told me I don't have Fibro, but Ehlers Danlos Syndrome with Hypermobility Syndrome!!! A chronic dissease that cause a fault in my connective tissue so that I litterly have pain EVERYWHERE...because a human is made of that connective tissue....But I don't want to hijack this thread, I shall made a thread of my own with a lot of updates!!

I recently read a study that the best way to fight insomnia, and this is assuming you're not struggling with sleep apnea, overactive bladder, etc.) is tryptophan. Have a small meal about an hour before bed.

I think I may have read the same article. My MS causes me not to sleep and nothing has helped much. I’m nervous about going back to work now and dealing with little to no sleep and driving in rush hour traffic in and out of downtown Toronto. These are the times I wish I had good mental and physical health. :(

There is an herbal tea I drink that helps.

Sometimes I do alot of stuff during the day that knocks me out.

Soft music cds.

Meditation

Congrats to your cousin and Baby Benjamin! She'll definitely be having sleepless nights for a while. Bahaha!

Yes. I use a lot of different things to send me to sleep land. But I still don’t fall asleep until 6am-ish then I’m wide awake again no later than 9am. :/

Oh! Thank you!! Ben is so flipping adorable. This is one of my favourite pictures of him, mainly because he has his Dobby made by his Nanny and my favourite Dumbledore quote.

Sadly Seroquell did nothing for me, but my body is weird when it comes to drugs. It seems to mainly ignore anything I take. Pain pills, sleeping pills, anti-depressants... my body ignores them.

I think it's very rude of it, and I have asked it to stop, nicely and not... but it ignores me more. Hateful thing. :D

I had a few people suggest kratom, but I saw that it can be addictive and thought, "Hmm. Maybe not."

I'm going to be in Toronto in a few weeks, maybe I should bring you some of that tea I have. You could give it a try.
