Good grief. I'm feeling quite miserable right now. My neck is really bad tonight. I have a migraine. I seem to have injured my shoulder today. My back is tight. My legs are stiff and my feet are torn up. Yep, that's a whole lot of complaining. Humour me, please.

I have chronic pain. No big deal, tons of people have it and we all deal with it. At least this week, I know where it's coming from.

I did two really big, really steep hikes this week. One was 20km one was 34km. I ran a good portion of both hikes. Today, I had training with my Search and Rescue team and we did rappelling and rope rescue (carrying a subject down a steep trail on a stretcher). The stretcher business did something to my shoulder.

I'm sitting around grooming ponies, trying hard not to focus on how rough I'm feeling.

Anyway, the part I'm actually more distressed about is when there is no cause for the pain. I've been hurting every day for years. Aside from this post, I don't really talk, whine or complain about it, because I've just learned to deal with it. However, it was only more recently that I realized THIS IS NOT NORMAL.

I'm kinda freaked out a bit. I worried that my body is aging too fast. I'm worried about how I might feel in another 20 or 30 years. I have never let pain stop me from doing anything I'm a super active person, but what happens if I break down and can't do it anymore.

Anyway, thanks for reading. If you have any personal experiences you'd like to share or things you've found helpful for chronic pain (I don't take prescriptions), please share.

I have MS so pain (among other stuff) is also a daily part of my life.

I am also someone who takes as little medications as possible. I have found that at times, having a hot bath with some epsome salts (with eucalyptus) can help with pain and headaches/migraines. Drinking non-caffeinated tea or a hot drink, putting heat packs wherever I hurt also helps. One of the biggest things I’ve found that helps with muscular pain is my tens machine. You can pick them up from Amazon fairly cheap but it can be the best pain relief at times.

But often with my migraines I am bed ridden and in the dark like a bridge troll until is subsided some. That can take days unfortunately. o_o;

I often pour myself into my tub with some epsome salts after long adventures. I would probably hurt less if I took better care of my body. Before I lost my job, I had a hot yoga membership and it saved my life. I had to quit, because I couldn't justify the expense.

The truth is, even though I hurt all the time and sometimes feel quite miserable, I'm grateful that I do mostly have exceptional good physical health. Pain is pain, but function is another thing. My pain has not limited my activity level and I'm grateful for that. I have so much respect for people who do have debilitating levels of pain and dysfunction due to serious health issues. I don't know how well I would handle being physically impaired. Physical activity is one of the only things that keeps my mind in check.

Thanks Skybreeze for your imput.

I understand your pains. I have a calcium issue and I was born with my knee caps in the wrong place. I also have a fracture on each foot that has not healed.
I was told I had a skeleton more like a males then female when I was young still do. Arithus and migraine fallow me around all the time.
MY knees can pop out of the shock it and if you want to know pain do that Oh gods does it hurt and I almost fall. Its like being hit with a wood baseball bat with a nail in it.

Like yall I find hot baths wonderful. I also uses one of those wax hand things that they have at nail places. you put wax in it and can dip your feet and hands into it. It has al natural herbs and oils it really helps my feet and hands.

I have 6 pinched disk in my back and icey hot is my savoir with this

Have you ever wondered if it was fibromyalgia?

Have you ever wondered if it was fibromyalgia?

Exactly. Whenever I've asked Dr. Google why I'm always hurting, two things seem to come up all the time. Fibromyalgia and Lupus. I prefer not to investigate further. I don't do the doctor thing and I'd rather not have a Fibromyalgia diagnosis. It also seems to be way over diagnosed. Whenever someone has unexplained pain, they get this diagnosis. Anyway, if I started taking better care of myself it wouldn't be so bad.

Have you considered maybe going to a massage therapist (not a spa-like massage, a therapy massage)? When I started my new job, we're standing all the time, and after a while my back really began hurting. I went to a trained medical massage therapist, and he found that my hips were slightly out of alignment, and he was able to fix that, and it helped the pain. I'm not suggesting that it would help everything (or if it even is a problem like what I have; it's really impossible to tell), but if you don't want to go to a doctor, perhaps this is an alternative?

I'm sorry to hear you're hurting so much. There can be a lot of reasons that are very hard to pin down/identify for pain. Maybe you can look into getting into yoga again? Maybe a drop-in class or two at a community center, or something, if other memberships are too expensive?

I'm wiggy about people touching me, but I did try a massage therapist once and he wasn't good and it didn't help. I will definitely give it another go when I have benefits again. I need my yoga. A friend just gave me a free 10 class pass to Open Door Yoga, but it's from 2014. It's not supposed to expire, so I'll try it. I should also get off my *** and do yoga at home on my own. I just bought a new (to me) mat on the weekend. You're also right about the community centers. I'm considering buying a three month pass to the local gym. I miss lifting weight. I could also swim and I think they might have yoga classes there. I appreciate the suggestions. I just have to get on it.

I'm right there with you all. It's not the pain that's worrisome, it's the loss of function. My aunt has lupus, so you might want to make sure it's not that. She almost died. Fibromyalgia is mainly treated here with cbd oil or just plain getting high.

I distract myself from the pain. With cleaning, crocheting, yard work, chores, brushing my pup, reading, sleeping is a favorite, coloring, video games, pony tending, sudoku, crosswords, and other various things that generally make the pain worse afterwards, but the satisfaction of finishing a project always makes up for it. I'm a bit of a freak, though.

I also see my doctors for everything all the time
