Hello, I have a couple of ponies with really bad hair, and I would need some advice on how to handle them without re-rooting.

These two are Caramel Crunch and Comet Tail.

Caramel Crunch here is my childhood toy.
I've tried soaking her hair in fabric softerner but it didn't work well. :(

I've seen a similar curly hair pony whose hair has been straightened,
so perhaps there might be a cure for her?

Comet Tail is one of the first few ponies I bought from ebay.
She has more or less suffered the same fate, but thankfully not as bad.

I also notice that her tail is shorter than most of my G3s.
Has it been cut or do certain G3s just have shorter tails?

Help? : (

All I have now is just an ordinary hair dryer and a pet comb.

The only thing I have found that works on really bad hair is putting lots of conditioner onto wet hair, and then straighten it with hair straightners with the conditioner still on. Do this a few times and it usually works. Do you know anyone who will lend you some hair straightners? :) Of course this is not 100% foolproof, because some g1 hair is damaged beyond repair so sometimes a rehair is the best way to go.

Caramel Crunch looks like she can be fixed and the G3 easily. I don't think the G3 tail has been cut..

dip in boiling hair and brush while still steaming. Do it over and over until the hair is smooth. Never leave the whole pony in during this...just dip in her mane or tail. I suggest one at a time.

Thank you both!

Is there any time limit as to how long pony hair can be exposed to heat?
I've read that doll hair could melt under too much heat. D:

I'll go look for straighteners and good conditioner. :)

I had a G3 Minty with pretty frizzy hair (it looked slightly worse than Comet Tail's) and what I did was brush it out until there were no tangles in it, then run it under hot water. I then used my Pantene conditioner and left it in for like 5 minutes, then rinsed it out with hot water, brushed it straight and let it dry. Once it dried, it was still a bit frizzy at the ends so I repeated the process again. Once it dried, it was silky and straight. This same method also worked on a frizzy haired G1 I found at an antique mall a few weeks ago.

If you're going to get a straightener, get one with a variable heat setting. Mine goes to 10 and I keep it on about 5-ish for normal pony hair (not that I use it on my own, but you know, lol!). As for conditioner, the thicker the better, and lots of it! I use a salon brand I get at a beauty supply store and I have gotten some amazing results!

Feel free to PM me if you need antthing else. :)

agreed! And as long as the pony hair is covered in conditioner the heat won't burn it or anything :)

I have tried the boiling water.... and it really works... and you don´t have to use chemicals on the pony at all.... it´s great..... and the hair style you make for the pony stays in for a very LONG time!

It's funny thats exactly what I do, I use my pantene and hot water along with some patient de-tangle work with a comb, though I wash it and put thick conditioner in and while thats in the hair I comb it which make it a lot easier.

I have the same problem and this seems like a good alternative to boiling water--I'm gonna have to try this!

I had read about using boiling water before I tried fixing Minty's hair, so I wasn't sure normal hot tap water was going to work, but I'm glad it did. I wasn't looking forward to messing around with boiling water. I use Pantene Beautiful Lengths, but I'm pretty sure any of their conditioners would work as well since they're all pretty thick.

Thanks again to everyone who replied. :)

I haven't got myself some "proper" conditioner, but I did try my luck soaking CC's hair in hot water with some conditioning lotion on a while ago. I think I see some very very minor improvements. :p

I've done quite a bit of hair restoration with my authentic My little Ponies. Especially my G1s. Recently I restored a G1 Molasses. Her hair was a frizzed out disaster when I got her. That tutorial that was suggested earlier was how I restored Molasses' hair. Good luck, let us know how it turns out!

Thanks for the link, Kar. :)
I'm so gonna try it out this weekend. :sunny:
