I am a pony collector, but am looking l expand my tiny g1 collection. I came across a seller who wants $7 for a Galaxy with regrind, and is in good condition in spite of it. I know its not contagious, but I do worry that is a lot of money to pony up for a pony with an incurable degenerative disease that will leave her patchy and discolored, and worsening over time. Is she really worth getting?

From my dealings with certain ponies, there are some that are very difficult to find without regrind. Galaxy is one of them. If this one is on eBay, I would pass as she'll show up again in good condition for that price. But if it's a seller here or on another site, you can always see if you can negotiate a lower price. They may be open to it. Ask $1 lower. I wouldn't go too low, though, because $7 is about right depending on how bad the regrind is.

Galaxy is prone to regrind and $7 for her is pretty cheap considering she goes a bit higher then that. I usually see her between the $12-$15 mark. But it's up to you and she's a very common pony.

I'd really rather not spend that much on a single pony, though (I've tried- and failed- looking for ponies at flea markets, which are a much better deal for the price), but ebay is pretty much the only option I have, and that's the cheapest I've found her. I certainly don't want to pay more than that if Galaxy is prone to regrind, and it'll happen to likely any of the ones I get, if it hasn't happened already. I feel like holding out hope for anything lower than (especially for a 30+ year old degenerative pony) that is next to nil.

$7 on a single pony is expensive? and you expect next to nil?

Then I suggest either

A)Trading for her. As I said, she's a pretty common pony and people are bound to have doubles.

B) Not bothering with vintage toys

C) Readjusting your expectations to something more realistic and not expecting to get them for next to nil in perfect condition.

Then I suggest either trading for her, or not bothering with vintage toys. Because $7 is pretty good for a 30 year old toy no longer in production.
you make a good point. Maybe I'm just being nitpicky. Or a cheapskate (but I'm kinda poor as it is, tbh) I guess in fairness, since she's bigger than the g4 ponies, which typically go for $5 a pop for a single, she's worth the price, regrind or no regrind, especially since she's out of production.

There's nothing wrong with wanting a good condition pony, a lot of us do, but understand that vintage toys are going to have problems and those that don't will likely develop them, and you most certainly will not, barring a gift/lucky coincidence, get a good condition vintage toy, common or otherwise, for next to nil.

Ask around the forums too, someone may have one for a good price or to trade.

hey, I know. Its not that I don't. Like I said- I'm just being nitpicky and setting the bar too high for expectations (and I know I shouldn't). Honestly, I'd rather have a pony with regrind than with mold. At least the former isn't contagious and nasty.
Don't mind me.

might take longer than I'd like it to- especially since I don't desire to trade (I don't think I have anything anyone would want, anyway), and I doubt anyone would be so generous as to sell for anywhere near $7 or $8

Nothing wrong with being a mint/near mint collector silly. ;) *Hugs*

You never know. Won't cost you anything to ask around.

I agree with Leave a whisper. The older the pony the more problems they may have. However the newer ones are now starting to have those same problems showing up. I wont be surprised if in 5-10 years G4s dont get any age spots or regrind.

DD's Sugar Grape has a bit of pinkish bleeding on her body near her mane. :S

I have a strawberry short cake doll older than the ponies shes got age spots all over her body. :/ I guess someone forgot to turn her upside down while cleaning her. So that the water can leak out. :/ Im sure my other G4s do have some issues. I kind of blind to them since they are newer.
