So, I finally got around to taking pictures of my favorite ponies :D They aren't really crisp since I used my cruddy 50mm kit lens. Oh well :) They weren't meant to be artistic or anything. Just my ponies!!

Thanks so much guys! I've been collecting for years but I don't have a ton of ponies. Mostly because I'm absurdly picky, and I spend way too much for just one pony. LOL! I had to do a little bit of restoration work on a few of them, but no rehairing. It's amazing what you can do with a filthy pony in your sink :D

I did actually get the entire first edition Rainbow ponies in minty condition for $30, and I got mint Tex with his accessories, all the year 2 earth, unicorn, and pegasus ponies in minty condition in one lot for $80. And I did snag 10 minty flutters in one lot for like $70 too. I'm still amazed I got that lucky hahaha

I'm jealous that you have the Glow-n-Show ponies. I love them, and don't have a single one yet. Your ponies are in beautiful shape. Your pickiness has paid off! :)

*drool* What a marvelous collection! Thanks for sharing! You totally made my day!

Haha thanks so much!!! It makes my life that my Glow n Show ponies still glow in the dark :p :D

I really need something other than slate for background paper lol Not very complimentary for the ponies....

Star Glow, that's a quality collection you have there. Wow, some beauties. :D

You've done a wonderful job of grooming them, they looks so fabulous! Hehehe. and I see we're alike with our collecting styles. I too spend "way too much" for one pony trying to get it as close to mint as possible, or to get the little peices. so my bank account understands the pain of your bank account. ;)

Loving the early ponies you have there and Congrats on your Tiff, she can be tough to get complete, almost as tough to find nice and white too.

Pfft! The photo's are awesome as well. they look like they could go into a book. honest.

Great collection!

Thanks so much Fantastic Firefly!! Oh yes, I am very anal about my ponies...Sometimes I will buy a pony when I know I can fix it's flaws--like my Tall Tales was in bait condition when I got her. It looked like a dog had eaten its dinner and then gummed her to death. After about an hour in the sink with her, she was mint! Dazzling natural curls, too. I'll have to get a photo of her.

Do you ever just keep buying a pony until you get it perfect? I keep doing that with Locket...I have three perfectly mint Lockets, but I keep buying more....I'm insane. I think I have 2 or 3 Morning Glorys too. I need to sell these...:p

The early ponies are my favorites--they seem a lot more like real MLP's to me. It's wierd, but it's more nostalgic--even though they were made before I was born LOL I'm an '86 baby but my favorite years are 2-4 LOL :D But I got ponies before my first birthday. A friend of my family's had three daughters who were all models for toy companies and magazines and when they modeled with MLP they got tons of free ones and gave me a lot of them.

:D I think one of these days I'm going to set up something really, really nice and take photos of my ponies. I was always really inspired by Spoosh's 50 Most Beautiful Ponies website, but I never got around to doing anything. I'd love to set up something cool in my studio in my basement like with mirrored surfaces and floral arrangements.

Aaaaand...that was the end of my novel. I talk way too much!! :D :D :D :leekguitar:<--not sure what that is, but it seemed appropriate at the time.

Oh wow. yes on all points.

I'll buy grubby ponies and groom until they shine, I also have herds. I cannot -not- bid on a Surprise if she's in beautiful shape with her curls. I have about 6-ish with mint factory curls now. and a MOC. She's not the only pony I'm building an army of... I can't help it with some of those early gals. they're so pretty.

And I have gone upgrade crazy on soo many ponies. must have spent over $100 to get a good sunbeam. just kept on buying them and buying them. LOL.

Wow, Those are some beautiful ponies!

Thank you Moondust!! :D :D

LOL! A Suprise Clone Army!!! :D :D LOL Sorry for the Star Wars joke..my boyfriend has finally got me into it and we just finished watching all the movies :p I'm still on my search for a minty Surprise...I keep find slightly yellow ones or ones with streaks of neon where the hair color bled onto the body..Ugh.. I do have my two Star Glow's, but I'm trying to decide which one to sell. They're both completely mint except ones a lot more opaque LOL Decision, decisions...

I actually got lucky when I got my flawless Sunbeam. She came in a lot with all my other year 2 and 3 unicorns/earth/pegasus ponies. I still can't believe I got that auction so cheap LOL $80 wasn't bad especially when Tex came with it haha

Wow! Awesome collection! I loove Yum Yum, what a sweetie! All of 'em, great!

Thank you so much!!! I remember when I bought her in the 9th grade--I had to ask for two advances on my allowance to buy her :D $15 was so much back then!! Even though her hair is really faded, she's still one of my favorites :D

Adding a couple more pics that I took this evening :) Taken with my "good" Nikkor lens LOL

If you can't decide, keep them both. :)

Fantastic Pictures! I think you did a wonderful job photographing your lovely ponies. I especially love your sparkle ponies.

Oh my gosh, StarGlow! You know how you expect certain things from a Show and Tell post? You want to see gorgeous photos of ponies, not looking like any normal photo of any normal pony, but something to capture what beauty really is in them?

Well, everything I expected was delivered here! These photos are gorgeous, the ponies look fantastic and the best part is I can really see them and their hair is shiny and pretty and their colors are bright and stark. I mean I am amazed! This is what I love about collecting- it's not the quantity, but it's the quality that you have. I am so loving these photos, looking at them is making me so happy right now, it's almost as good as the real thing!

Your ponies are so pretty, thank you for sharing! I am loving the hair- if you did some of the tail curls you must share how, I just love the curls on Gusty and Locket. Wow, you have a really impressive collection of ponies there. I want to buy a camera just like yours but really it's the ponies that are making it so great!

*Drools*

The early ponies are my favorites--they seem a lot more like real MLP's to me. It's wierd, but it's more nostalgic--even though they were made before I was born LOL I'm an '86 baby but my favorite years are 2-4 LOL :D But I got ponies before my first birthday. Haha, I feel the same, actually! I was born in '85 and yet years 1-6 seem to evoke the most nostalgia from me. It's pretty strange, that's for sure. I think it's because I saw the early specials- Battle at Midnight Castle and Escape from Catrina, and I suppose my friends who had more ponies than I did got some of theirs from garage sales... of course I have an older sister born in '81 so that helps some too.

And that's so cool about your model friends! Free ponies from Hsbro, awwww! Are they in any of the pamphlets/on any of the boxes for MLP? Maybe in commercials? It'd be so cool if you could spot them. Or interview them or something! I'd love to know more! Can you ask them anything else about it? I've always wondered what it'd be like to be *that* little girl, doing ads for MLP!

Awe Claire you rock!! Thank you soooo much!!! :D :D :D I'm so glad my ponies put a smile on your face!!

I think that half of collecting is enjoying their beauty, and by photographing them I love them more. I like moving them around to get the prettiest angles--because you know some ponies were molded just for that certain angle that makes them look most beautiful. I really need to make a nice set up though. I have a studio downstairs, so I really need to use that :D

My camera is a Nikon D80 and I ADORE it. I actually got it for free through the Michigan Education Savings Plan because I'm a photography student. Michigan might be really messed up, but it has a few things going for it.

I still hold spoosh up to be the best pony photographer :D I still go back to the old 50 most beautiful website and drool :D :D

As for the curls--I actually like to work with the natural curl in their hair. I don't use straws or boiling water or any products. I just wash them and twist the hair and wrap it around their legs. Some ponies, like Sweet Clover, whose hair is just slick straight, it doesn't work too well. But some, like Gusty and Locket, have that natural curl left and really lets your work with it. And it's really just fine to wash their hair. The curl always comes back if you do it right.

Maybe it's just because I have naturally curly hair and I really know how to work it best?? LOL I've had a very long time to work with it!! :D :D :D

*edit* Woo you edited! haha

You know, I think that's what it is for me. I tend to be most fond of the ponies that were featured in the episodes and movie. I can understand that since you sort of "get to know" them and they seem to tug at our heart strings :D

As for the girls, they mostly did magazines and commercials, but my mom said they did the inserts too. Not sure which ones :( I wish I knew what they were up to now! I haven't seen them since we moved from Texas..maybe I could find them on Facebook...*plots* They were several years older than me, but I might be able too. But yes they were sooo beautiful....We have some old home videos with them over and me being like 6 months old with alien bug eyes at all these ponies.

Okay it's official, I need to dig out those tapes. See what ponies I was playing with! If it was a Rapunzel, I'll die...hahaha

But oh my gosh...they were the most beautiful blonde-haired blue-eyed girls ever...o_O Their names were Heather, Holly, Hannah, Haley, Hillary, and......might have been Holly. Their dad had an old Texas name that started with H, too. My mom said their last name was Campbell (or Camble...I don't know, that's just how she said it lol) and they lived across the street from H. Ross Perot O_O
