Is it just me, or does it seem like a large amount of collectors of 3+ years are burnt out and selling their collections? I'm in a bit of shock at how low prices are right now and how many ppl I know are just retreating from adding to their collections. It's made me rather sad for the pony collecting world in general.

I've seen a lot of newer collectors, too. Summer is always slow. I had ALOT of pony sales this past winter through April and then it slowed. I know a lot of collectors take breaks for a while and then pick up again. I'm sure this is still the trend.

I have noticed many younger collector's getting into the g1's. That's pretty awesome.

I am a newer collector myself, but I feel like this is a fairly common occurrence. Summer hits, vacation dream start brewing, and yard sale season starts coaxing some to drop their collections. Other circumstances are often the culprit too, of course, but it does seem to go hand in hand with summertime the most.

I got my best friend interested in ponies and she now has a small herd of her own! One of these days I’ll convince her to join up on the forums.

Yes I have noticed this also. It is happening. I started a thread about it a while back. This is the worst time of year to sell anything. I know I have to sell off most of my collection also. I am having to wait until fall to start due to not having a printer. For me it is a change in priorities. I also have noticed new collectors coming on the scene. I do feel that there is a trend on buyers to spend far less for their ponies than in the past. I have noticed this too. So, I am not expecting huge profits on many of my ponies. There are some that do not even sell because they are so common. With the changes in laws on sales tax this has also affected me getting started as R2 is going to have to sell my collection off for me due to this new law that was passed recently.

Here is my old thread

I'm still optimistic this law can either be overturned or changed so that small online businesses that sell less than $2,000 worth of product per month won't have to charge a tax because it really will hurt a lot of small-time, part-time sellers. I know a lot of my friends do book sales or make-up sales or beauty products, or clothing, etc. online. The tax was imposed so that businesses like Amazon will be treated just like all the other stores.

I hope so because breaking this law is going to cause huge financial consequences and they are cracking down on online sellers from all the typical places like ebay and people who use paypal. Gah it just frustrates me. The stuff I see on the news just really makes me mad. They always do these things that hit the small guy far worse than the big money making companies.

I still say that most senators and anyone higher in government could take a pay cut.

I agree. A lot of career politicians are multi-millionaires. They line their pockets while pretending to care about the average joe. I'd rather see term limits myself. I think that would cut down on the problem. And maybe the small businesses would prosper once again.

Yeah, I think it's more of a cyclical trend. For me, it just means I'll buy more ponies this summer. :coolpony:

I do see several collectors selling up (like others have said - changes in priority, lifestyle, etc.) but I also see a lot of the ‘old time’ collectors still active and a lot of newer collectors active in the community.

This is also convention/fair season so you'll see a lot of people off loading stuff to raise money to go to them. As others have said, best time to buy but worst to sell.

Yes fall and winter is when R2 is going to sell a bunch of my ponies for me. We are not even going to bother with it right now. I am so tired I am not sure I could do it now. Still have to buy a printer too.

Hmm. I have a few ideas as to why this is happening. Maybe it's because it's summer and you use more water and power for A/C so some are selling to compensate for monthly bills? Or maybe it's just that families are growing and as this happens space becomes more and more limited. I cut back on my ponies for space reasons. I'm only keeping my babies. Selling all my adult ponies, but yeah, no buyers this time of year.

Well I'm not going anywhere! Ponies forever LOL I do have times of slow buying depending on what's going on at the time and people do get busy in the summer time with other things. I recently bought a large lot that I'm picking out what I need and selling the doubles but even I wonder if I should wait until the fall to post them. I always stick them on here first, so I guess I'll do that and then whatever is leftover by then can hit eBay. The board in general seems quieter, I'm not on facebook so I miss out on what's happening there but I like having you guys to talk pony with, even when I'm in a poor spell and not buying at the moment :)

Same here I don't use facebook either. I haven't a clue what goes on there. I use google plus.

I use Facebook, but it's not the friendly, non-judgmental community that's been built here. Don't get me wrong, there are some great ppl on there. It's just not as supportive as here. Being on here is like getting a hug when you're sad.

I just have been down, but you guys are used to me wandering back and forth. I mean well, but then I fall offline.
