Edit - we went over this evening for Christmas, and Dreama (Carlee's mama) was THRILLED with it! :D She kept saying how awesome it was. :p I didn't get around to darkening it after all. :\ But I got some awesome pictures to draw from (or maybe paint!) next time. ^-^ Carlee, on the other hand, was more excited about the drawing than the rest of her gifts, lol - she kept saying 'Baby, baby' and she rocked it and kissed it and brushed the hair. :p It was SO cute. ^-^

If you're interested in seeing their reactions, I have spliced some videos I took w/ my digicam and put the result in my Photobucket account (um, it uploaded not so well for whatever reason, so it's a bit grainy looking) - it has Dreama opening it, and then it has some of Carlee's cute little dealings w/ it (kissing it, brushing her hair, giving her a drink, and even rocking and singing to it :p). Cute, if you want to look! :D Edit: Nevermind, Photobucket obviously doesn't like splicing. :p It has the sound of the first bit, but not the video - the only video it uploaded is the middle one, so... you can hear their reaction, and you can see Carlee kissing the drawing and giving 'baby' a drink... but it's all off. Here it is if you still want to view it:

And here's a cute picture of Carlee and her mama w/ another of her gifts:

I did this for my... ex-sister-in-law-but-they're-not-actually-legally-divorced-yet-so-yeah.... My niece's mom. :p This is my niece, Carlee:

Sorry, the scanner scanned it lighter than it actually is. But you get the 'picture', heh. It says 'Carlee Jade', but I cropped it off so you just see the actual drawing. Here's the pic I drew it from:

[Deleted 'cause I added another picture]

What do you think? Do you think she'll like it? Now that I see the picture on the computer, which is much larger than the one I printed out, lol, I see some things I can change and details I can add. The scan lost some detail to it, unfortunately. I'm surprised that her eyes are actually half-way even - I have troubles w/ that, lol. But her nose is too long. :p Her hand was really hard to do because I couldn't see the detail in the picture (sad, too, because I love drawing hands). And I had to improvise on the bottom, but part of that will probably be cut off anyway if I frame it. Should I frame it?

Anyway, what do you think?

wow you did a really amazing job!! She will definatly love it.

Thanks. :) I ended up framing it, but... it needs more contrast. :\ That's always been my area of difficulty. :p

I think that's a very amazing drawing! I wish I had the patience to do something like that.

AJ, it rocks! You did a fantastic job, and I was going to say, it would definately look good with a frame!

One is always picky when it comes to especially portraits, but really, your drawing is beautiful - I love the eyes and the mouth/tongue, the expression is very striking!

And you have an adorable niece too ;) I'm sure they'll both love it!

Thanks, everyone! :D I'm thinking about going back to add more contrast, but I'm afraid to, heh - I don't want to end up messing it up. :\

How about taking a copy of it and print that - you can mess up all you want on that drawing, while still figuring out where to darken and where to lighten :)

Then you can always add it to the original drawing, if you're fully satisfied :p

That's a good idea, Silly - I think I might just do that. ;) Thanks! :D

Thanks!
I've done it myself a couple of times, when I've had an almost finished drawing that I was too scared to mess up ;)

I hope you'll post eventual changes and contrasts, if you end up working on it some more :)

the one thing i notice between the 2 is that i think you have made the cheek come out a bit too much. other than that looks great!

Thanks, everyone! :D Tinka - that's what my hubby said, heh, so I guess I should change that. :p

Thanks!~

That is a wonderful drawing! I can't believe it's only pencil and paper. Wow, you're really talented.

And oh my god, that is the cutest little girl I've ever seen in my entire life!

Its a very beutiful drawing, I'm sure she'll like it! :)

The only thing I would suggest is to draw in the sleeve of her cute little shirt to complete her hand, if you decide not to crop the bottom and yes defenitely, frame it!

What resolution are you scanning it in? If you want to print it out, it would be best if you try for a higher resolution like 300-400 dpi to catch a little more of the detail.

Thanks, Claire. :D She is a cutie, isn't she? ^-^

Thanks for the suggestion, CM - I did end up cropping it quite a bit. Her hand does need a bit of... help, heh.

You all are great. ^-^
