Browsing on the web I came across Hasbro's Blossom earth pony. Not sure if Hasbro trademarked her name. Is she a lead character or just a background pony with no core story.

Will this cause problem with my Upcoming Novel "Blossom and the Dragon. " in the story my furry equine ( Species name Clyony ) Blossom. She is the Core of the story.

Hasbro did drag DC comics to court over The Name Bumblebee.

What do you think? Should I worry or shrug it off and not worry?

Blossom is...Pretty common I'd think. I mean, I don't know for sure, but you hear about in books/comics all the time, and Hasbro did NOT come up with it. As for Hasbroken attacking DC for the name Bumblebee? That's incredibly stupid. Its not like its Optimus Prime or Pinkie Pie.
I guess if they'd go after the name "bumblebee" anything's possible. Are there other names you'd consider using? Because I'd look into that

No. They can't copyright common words. They got into it with DC for the use of the name Bumblebee and lost because it was a common word.

They likely couldn't have sued PPG over it either.

If you're familiar with G4 in its earlier days, you might remember they would capitalized trademarked terms. Because "Rarity" is a common word, she was trademarked as RARITY THE UNICORN. You should be ok, although you likely cannot trademark BLOSSOM either.

A trademark identifies a brand The Copyright is the content under that brand. ( Registering a trademark is very expensive, and you're right its almost difficult to register a brand under a common word you have to mix it up. Example ( Rarity shampoo bow bow ) for hair care products.

When I went through registering my brand in Canada. I decided to protect both the name and logo. my brand is the furry equines called ( The Clyonies ) there are other species Unidale and Clyasus and many others. However, I decided to choose The Clyonies as a way to identify the furry creatures. After all the Unidale and Clyasus later evolved from the clyony species.
