Do customs keep any value?

I think it depends! If it's a persona, probably not, since persona ponies are very personally designed. It all depends on the aesthetics, if the customizer is well known, how the custom's condition is, and sometimes just the theme. There's a lot of folks who like Halloween customs, but probably fewer who like Easter ones!

My opinion is no not really. They are an art form with a narrow collecting base depending on their theme and artist reputation. It is a stretch to get all the money back put into a custom with a resale.

It's hand craft I started doing and people wanted them, so I opened up commission requests

If people wanted them I needed them to pay so I'd have the materials to keep going. I keep getting enough requests to have kept this hobby up for 10 years.

I would not recommend buying customs like a collectible g1 to resell to gain money off of. Hand crafts are always imperfect because they are not machine-made, plus they hold unique emotion.

People can resell customs like if they need to clear space or need sudden money but it is unlikely you could sell it for more than you paid for it.

Could also depend how new or old it is. If you had a collectible custom for over a decade, it could demand a unique price.

The most expensive custom I've sold was a $300.00 highly detailed secret surprise custom.

If someone were try to resell that I have no clue how it would do.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I've only purchased customs that are special to me in some way and I plan on selling the rest before I could part with them. With the exception of a couple alternate re-hair ponies. I purchased an exquisite custom second hand that was rather spendy. It's by dark horse, who I really don't know about, but whose customs seem high quality and high demand. So, I was just curious.
