Canonicity of Star Dreams?

So, a lot of g4 fans don't seem to consider anything other than the animated television show to be "canon", but in reality- the tv show has always served as a vehicle to promote the toyline, as the toyline came first throughout every generation. So with that said, how do fans view the canonicity of toyline exclusive ponies, such as Star Dreams (look how friggin adorable she is!) , or Princess Sterling and Gold Lily, Lullaby Moon, or Skyla?

I love star dreams. We don't have her, but she's beautiful.

Do people consider the comic cannon? I've seen debates about that as well. Funny, I'm not watching the show, but I do read the comics.

Comics were my first fandom though, so no surprise. Been reading them since I was 4.

G4 has so much going on that it's honestly difficult for me to keep track of canon, haha! Between the show, the comics, the toyline, etc. it gets confusing for me.

-sways in rickety rocking chair on the porch- Back in my day, canon was so much simpler....

I really love the design of Princess Skyla! I was kinda not happy when they went with Cadence rather than Skyla. *huff*

But overall I could care less what is cannon or not. Granted I do pay most attention to the show (and toys obviously) but all the hullabaloo about if a thing is “cannon” or not. Ya, I don’t care one way or another.

Like did it ever matter if Kirin were “cannon” to the show before season 8 or not? No. Lots of artist still made beautiful artwork with Kirin characters in G4 style. So... I forgot where I was going with that.

The gist is that it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things in my personal opinion.

omigosh I thought I was the only one! I have every single issue and I love them so much:) I think they should have used the ideas from the comics for episodes because that alternate universe thing was awesome! the comics have so much more action.

It depends on the fans you talk to. Fans of the show first are likely to have never heard of any toy-exclusive characters, especially because they came from much earlier on in the toyline. Fans of the toys are likely to regard her in about the same standard of the other one-off characters, and she might stick out if she's particularly hard to find.
I think for G4 it's show first, the toyline is only meant to reflec tthe show and has little bearing on canon, and the comics are considered a seperate canon if there are any conflicting details.
