I hope this is the right spot, since it's art related. I wasn't sure if this could be here, or if it had to be in Friends Discussion, since not all of it really is pony related.

Here's the thing- I'm looking for artists to be in my portfolio.
The portfolio is animal/anthropamorphic based. The theme of the Folio is music- basically artists are to take a piece of music (any type- classical, folk songs, 80's, whatever you want) and draw to it. The idea is that when people see the work, and hear the song that it's to, they'll think "yeah...I see that"

What are Anthropamorphics?
Sometimes called "Furries". They're basically animals with human characteristics, such as dressing like people and walking on hindlegs. Anthros are ideal for this project, though if you see the image to the song as a regualar/quad animal, then that's fine too.

A little more info:

There will be a Limited 50 spots in my portfolio, and 25 are already taken. Art CD's will be made, and sold at conventions (I will Debut at Anthrocon 2006). Each artist will get 6 CD's- one to keep and 5 to sell (at about $35-$45 each). If chosen, artists will be expected to help pitch in for cost of Labels, blank CD's and such.

"But I stink at 2-d! Sculpture is my thing!"

That's fine, I'm accepting any type of artistic media- as long as high quality pictures can be taken of it to be in the portfolio.

Interested? How can you Join?
Reply here with samples of your work (the more, the better). Those who I chose will be contacted. So if you don't like PM's, PLEASE leave your email address too so I can contact you if I choose you.

I'm picky who will go into this Folio, so if you are not picked, DOES NOT mean that you are bad at art! I base my decisions on some anatomy, artistic interpretation, and whether or not I think the person can do a good job and get it done on time.

"That's great Muffins, but how do we keep in contact, and just how soon is the deadline?"

The project is done through an LJ community (members are filtered, so sorry no, you can't join just to watch the art). Tentative deadline is APRIL (most likely the end of April)

Comments? Interested? Please ask, please leave examples!

I'd be very interested :)

Link to my website is in my sig if you want to have a look, but I'll post examples anyway.

Hmm... you've piqued my interest. =>

My DevArt account has my cream of the crop stuff in it: http://beanie.deviantart.com/ but so you don't have to pick through the photography, here's my favourites right now. =>

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/20222149/ - The most recent "piece" I've done lately. Fooling around with vectors. I haven't done a lot of this sea otter character outside of the comic, so I keep doing experimental pieces with him in it.

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/18747414/ - Again, sea otter, experimental... I ADORE mixed media, and one day I just hauled out all my various tools, sat down at my drafting desk, cranked up my Lilo & Stitch soundtrack, and worked for a good couple of hours straight on this one!

http://www.deviantart.com/view/17206145/ - I'd been itching to do a large, multi-character piece for a long time, and the inspiration finally decided to present itself. Like is mentioned in the description on devart, I don't really dig the composition as hard as I could, but I still rather like it. It makes me feel warm and happy inside. X3

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/12182958/ - A little doodle more than a finished piece, and there's definitely technical flaws in it... but I love it because it's a fantastic representation of the *characters.*

I'm not sure I completely understand your project, at least the part about how it's going to be sold, but if you'd like me to, I'd be interested in doing a piece.

My style has a fairly cartoon-y twist to it, but I can do more traditional as well. I've been into drawing furries for ages, I just never realized there was a term for it until the past year or so XD

(I won't be offended if you don't pick me of course, some of these are fairly lame/old examples  )

I can also do fairly decent backgrounds, I'm just usually to lazy to unless its for an actual project XD

Edited to add, She's Jazz Matazz pic might make more sense now LOL

Seems like an interesting idea, but will we be making any profit from this, or are we just donating our art for you to sell? O___o I think I'm severely confused here.

I might be interested in joining. You can find some anthro MLP examples in my DeviantArt gallery here:

http://morrichan.deviantart.com/gallery/

I really only do MLP anthros, by the way. o.o I guess I could just do unicorns/pegasus/ponies if copyright issues matter. >__>

Still in the process of reveiwing people- Thank you to those who responded so far!

To clear things up-

I'm looking for people who can draw more than just ponies. I don't want copyrighted characters in the portfolio. I'm looking for any anthro imaginable.

Examples do not have to be specific pictures, a gallery is fine. If you have more than one gallery, please post them all! I'm looking for a bunch of styles, and I can get a feel for what type of work you do by looking at a bunch of your artwork.

6 CD's (of all of the artists on that CD) will be given to each artist. 1 is for them to keep, and the other is for them to sell. So you can sell them for $35-$45 for EACH CD. This is why I ask for Furry/Anthro artists because they're familiar with conventions around them. I am not selling these for a profit, each artist is. Even if you think you have to give the rest away (I highly doubt this. Art CD's are popular), you'll at least get a CD of all of the other artists' works with yours too.

Cost per artist I estimate will be about $5 for materials. I know for a fact that it will be no more than $10. The only way that the maximum $10 would occur is if we do not reach 50 artists..this is unlikely. Spaces in this particular one seem to be well sought after.

If anyone wants more information about it please go look at: http://www.livejournal.com/community/musicportfolio/info

-please- this does not mean you're accepted if you look at this site, it's just giving you more information about it. It's easier to explain by just showing you then telling you :}

Please don't be intimidated! There are a lot of well known artists already in the portfolio, and I do look at all artists who post them and take thier styles into consideration.

Interesting idea :)

What happens if, say, you can't go to cons because there are none remotely close to where you live and you're too poor to fly to one? If (big if) I got accepted, could I sell them online, or find someone else participating to sell them at a con for me and give me a portion of the earnings?

Yes. Those 6 CD's are technically yours, and you may do what you wish with them. If you want someone to sell them for you, that's fine. If you want to give them away as gifts, or use them as coasters, hey, that's ok too.

The CD's will not be some half-arsed job: there will be labels for the CD's and Cd covers and such.

is my location a problem?

Nope! Artists on the list are from all over the world. :}

I don't have any gallery right now because of scanner issues but I will try to have one fast

Aye, I know how that goes! If you have any of your work online, you can aways send examples of it to my email (its in my sig!)

I have never seen any anthro convention so I don't know what use to happen there

That's ok! There are sites online that sells Furry/Anthro art. For anyone who wants to look at furry art (I warn you though, some work there could get over P-13!) check out FurBid

I'm interested. There is very little chance we'll (my husband and I) go to AC06 because of the change in date. However, we are going to other conventions like Furfest and/or Furfright. Unfortunately, I haven't been doing a lot of furry artwork lately. So most of my stuff is at least 2 months old.

My personal gallery: http://www.calicocoyote.com/gallery

My DA gallery: http://redkam.deviantart.com

Thanks! :)

Okay, how are the artists going to get credit? Will we have our site in there if they want a commissions or such and such? Also, are watermarks allowed or are these pictures going to be unwatermarked. (I would hope they are! I could see a small watermark for all the pictures in the CD though.

The files on the CD will contain the artist's name and name of the song (with musical artists as well). If people are interested in your work, they can easily do aGoogle search for your site. I'm pondering a "page" of info in there with contact info, but I'm not sure yet about that. Watermarks are yet undertermined. While it is completely unncessasary to have a watermark in the folio, there might be an "invisible" one added, whereas if they print it, a watermark will appear.

Deadline for current list of artists is the end of August. Secondary list will go out shortly after that.

Do the examples of our previous works have to be anthropamorphic?

No. But you have to show me that you can do them. A link to a gallery is probably best- you don't have to link individual pictures. I'm looking for artistic style, a good sense of anatomy, and that the person can do more than just ponies.
