Update:

KneonT and I are sad to announce the cancellation of the 2005 Winter Pony Festival for reasons outlined below. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused anyone.

The Pre-Festival Raffle (prizes Ice Crystal, 2003 MIB Winters, and Custom MLP Sign) will continue to be held, provided we sell the allotted amount of tickets by the ending date (see raffle thread for details).

Thank you all for your encouragement and support.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As most of you will know, several months ago KneonT and I decided to host the first annual Winter Pony Festival. This event was to take place in a large private home in Williamsport, PA, on December 3.
We were thrilled at the initial interest of 20-30 people. During the past few weeks, however, our guest list has dwindled greatly to the point where we are very sadly debating canceling the Festival.
KneonT and I put an unbelievable amount of time, effort, and planning into this event, and are extremely disappointed at the small response and lack of communication from the guests. We are seriously concerned that the resources we have will be put to poor use for an event with so few people.
We will be continuing discussion over the next few days, and will post an announcement as soon as we have made our decision. If you are currently participating in the Winter Pony Festival raffle, please see raffle thread for newly posted details.
Pony hugs,
Alissa / Strawberry Fair
ooooh :( I hope its still going to go on! I can actually make this one!
How many people do we need going to make this successful? I really don't want to see it cancelled :(
Thank you both for your replies. Unfortunately, we haven't had much communication from anyone about anything, including why they can't attend. As I said, we had quite a lot of initial interest, and were excited to provide a large Northeastern event since the Fair has been held away from the East coast the past few years. We knew some people would be unable to attend because of the time of year, but we felt that early December would be an excellent time that allowed for traveling, availability, and good weather.
I'm sorry to hear it--it sounded like such fun! Katie and I would have trekked up from VA if we were still there. That's too bad. :cry:
We did try to have a meet in the summer and almost everyone backed out of it too. This winter meet WAS the postponed meet. We postponed it to an opposite season because the summer one was supposed to be too much for people to get too. It will NOT be postponed again. When the winter meet was mentioned (with a date attached to it) five months ago there were almost 30 people who said they were interested. People thought it was a nice idea to have it in an opposite season. Then there was noone and everyone is saying how winter is bad for them??? We would not have tried to plan one in the winter if people hadn't said before that it was fine for them?????? This was a way for the NE pony people to get a large meet.
I guess what makes Strawberry and I feel bad is that we just spent almost a year planning two meets that had tons of interest initially and then we had to cancel because nearly everyone backed out. Not to mention the money involved too. We are trying to recoup some of our cost back with the raffle. If you can help us out please do so. We really appreciate it.
At this point I am not going to attempt another meet. I can't speak for Strawberry, but I will not do this again. It is too much work for nothing. I am not blaming anyone specifically, but I feel really really let down about the whole thing. I worked really hard and even had Toys-r-us interested in participating. Hopefully nextime someone else will do it. :cry: :cry: :cry:
I would of gone, I just dident message because I dident want to comit untill I was 100% shure I could get off work :( , too bad.
ya know, in Toronto they have held several large meets, but as of late just couldent offer the time to plan anouther one, so we did mini meets instead. just gather at a house with show off ponies and trade items and thats your meet. no big expences on prizez ect. and if only 3 people show so what, we would go thrift shopping or all cook dinner together and freek out our boys gabbing about ponies ^_^ we set up a paradice estate and had a good time setting up a pony wedding one night too, I dono, what about a few mini meets and then try for a big one? Id be happy to host anouther mini meet here in Northern VA, and Id attend one if anyone elce hosted one too. dont give up just yet, just re-think ^_^ we could even try to go horse back riding or such if anyone would know how to set that up, the TO collectors did that once, only 5 or 6 people went, but they had a ball! wish Id been intown to go that time. just thoughts, *hug* Im sad that there is no meet now. and Im sorry you guys are so discouraged!
Ohhh...I wanted to go so bad I begged my mom to take me but she said driving 4and 1/2 hours for a pony convention is out of the question and i can't drive im only 13.
I was debating, too! MLPgirl92, where are you? I'm in Akron, so it would have been a couple of hours at least for me. We may have been able to carpool, ya know?
Unfortunately it is so hard to plan, so I do sympathize with the feelings of being let down. I tried to have a meet, had tons of responses, then had 3 people show up! It was still interesting, but really, you can't do much with 3 people. Someone had even emailed me that very day to say she was on the way, but never showed up. I hope she didn't get lost!
Plans change so much, it's hard to solidly commit. I didn't say anything because I didn't know. Not until it was closer, anyway. I have been looking for a job, and just my luck that if I did say yes I'm coming, I would start a new job and have no way of getting the time off! I was even looking up hotels/motels to see what it would be to stay overnight for both days... :cry: Ah, well. I will be buying some raffle tickets, I think. I need to remember to do that...should do it now, in fact.
I'm sorry things didn't work out. Every time of year is busy, and we should know that! We have to make an effort to actively go to things we want to go to, I guess. I haven't been to a couple of meets I wanted to go to because "well, there will be others..." That's not the point! I wanted to see the same people again! So, I will try to keep up with my commitments, as an early New Year's Resolution. So, if I say I'm coming, I'm coming!
I live in lyndhurst!Thats not to far and my friend who is a pony collector would like to go so if we could carpool it could be all 3 of us(unless it is cancelled) But then agian i doubt my mom would let me carpool with a stranger :cry:
Who can be stranger than a grown adult that still collects toys?? :lol: :lol:
That is understandable, but maybe we'll meet at a closer gathering sometime. The winter one would have been fun, *sigh*, but it is so hard to get things planned. And now the weather...we'll see if we can get out of the house for Thanksgiving!
Well, guys, hopefully this won't keep you from planning again, but I would certainly understand if it did! Maybe merge with another meet, making it a bit bigger, and spreading the work around a little more? Just a thought. Of course, I'll probably end up moving to NC in the summer, so I won't be able to go to any in this area any more!
