A while back I was doing some research on my ponies for a project I was doing and when it came to find information on my Waterfire, I saw this picture:

The picture is from here but there's no explanation on why this one is different.
The colour differences, especially on the cutie mark, interested me so I tried to find what version this is of Waterfire or if any other pictures of her exist but I found nothing.
Is this a prototype? A varient?

It seems to be a stock photo, so possibly a prototype? Perhaps that was the photo Hasbro put on their website originally?

I like that she has some yellow in her hair and how the hoof heart is on the display side. I hope this variant actually exists somewhere!

if this is the photo Hasbro used on their website, they would've needed a pony to take the photo of. She is rather interesting :satisfied:

I know there was a Limited Release of a First 50 Waterfire released to (possibly) eBay. But I’m unsure of details and what it looks like.

But @skig or @MustBeJewel might know a bit better than me as I am not a G3 collector.

Does/did Hasbro release to eBay a lot, do you know?

There were "First 50" releases through a Hasbro/World in Advance collaboration sold on eBay for the first few years of G3. Six of the first eight ponies, as well as the first release sets of most of the "Perfectly Pony" line and some of the sets specific to each release year. There's a full list for each year on Strawberry Reef. I have two First 50 ponies, Kimono and Peachy Pie, and a third on the way from the UK. Kimono's numbered sticker is on the side of the package. After the first year, they weren't numbered and just had the round sticker on the front.

Peachy Pie looks like a very lovely pony :lolpony:

I've seen some MIB pictures of Waterfire but she didn't have the same coloured cutie mark... if there are some Perfectly Pony Waterfires like that in the box that would explain why mine isn't like that because I got mine with the Wonder waves Surf shop

Waterfire isn't part of the Perfectly Pony line. She's a Shimmer Pony from the Butterfly Island year (2005). Perfectly Pony is what they called "regular" release ponies from 2004-2007. I'm still leaning toward marketing prototype.

I wish Hasbro would just give us a peek in their vault so we could have our questions answered
I wonder if Hasbro has an archive somewhere of each pony made like Steiff does...

In the past, they've claimed that one doesn't exist, but I'm suspicious considering the things they displayed at HasCon in 2017. Most of what we've seen, though, has been from former Hasbro designers, like Kirk Hindman, who is a self-admitted pack rat.

I'm sure I read somewhere a while back that there is a certain G1 who "lives at Hasbro HQ" but unsure where

Oh that's very interesting! The exact same picture too! And I don't think I've ever seen Seaspray before. She looks very nice :ponylove: And Kiwi Tart
Seaspray and kiwi tart are two of my favorites. Such lovely bright color.
