a couple of concerns...

reading over the sig and avatar limits, i'm a little concerned... not just because pretty much every avatar i've seen so far is over the limit in either dimensions, filesize, or both, but because i don't know if it's POSSIBLE to make an 80x80 image that's under 8k, especially not in MSPaint (and i'm saving in .png format, so it should be as compressed as a .jpg, if not more). i'm also going to have to completely rework my sig to fit it within the new constraints (and i had a really cute commission that i can't use because it's too big).

so, how stringent are the mods going to be on these standards? are they more like guidelines so no one starts posting with 200x200 icons that are 150k? or are they hard and fast RULES and if you break them by even a pixel or a kilobyte, they disable your sig/avatar? i just wanna do this right, but still be able to enjoy myself. ^__^;;;

Well as to regards of the sig rules, its exactly the same as the old TP in pixels, so just use the sig you had on the TP. I think everyones sticking to the sig thing, which is great as it stops scrolling and huge sigs or of course when someone has tonnes of pictutes and such.

Yes, we are enforcing the sizes all around the board. If you need any help, there will be many who will be more than happy to help you on the testing forum.

Yes the sig guidelines are in effect similar to those we had on the ezboard.. accept that the 300x180 incorporates both text and graphics.

The av/sig sizes are set so that the aesthetics of the board are maintained and that posts do not skew or cause side scrolling coz of oversized avs or sigs.

We also have server costs to consider, and large sigs invariably cause longer posts and more pages, which equals higher costs.

If you need an av resized you can mail me the image at Admin@mlptp.net and Ill do that for you.. :)

I thought it would be hard to get an avatar so small that I would like, but it really isnt. I hope you manage to get it all to fit for you. *Hugs*

cingeyepony, your avatar is ADORABLE. i so want one of those tiny tins now. XD

yeah, thanks to the magic of photoshop on greg's computer, i got it worked out. i don't know how legible the text is on my sig, but... *shrug* apparently i didn't know diddly about how tiny .jpg and .gif files can compress without losing image quality. yays!

I have the opposite problem. The sig I wanted to use was perfectly within the forum rules, but the character limit on the profile page was too small because my picture and link URLs were too long. So I can only get two pictures in and no links or my alotted 5 lines of text. Kinda stinks, but Spoosh said he couldn't fix it. :?

On most of the sites I go to, the avatar limit is 100x100. It has never really comprimised how the board shows up on my screen.

2. Keep all sigs clean and appropriate, if you have questions... dont do it.
2a. No inappropriate content will be posted or tolerated on this site.

3. All sigs must be under 20KB and less than 400 px wide by 300 px tall, or 100 px tall and 500 pix wide. ONLY ONE PIC AND ONE LINE OF TEXT, no exceptions, smileys are a picture. If you have text only, no more than 4 lines as viewed on a 600x800 screen
There is the signature rule that I find on that site as well as others. It's merely a suggestion. I think, for the most part, we are all pretty good about our signatures. I have a picture and two lines of text, but it's not monsterous.

Almost, lol. My character count is 351 (no spaces) and 359 (with spaces)

Just need a little more and I'll be perfectly happy with my sig. Thanks SS for adjusting it.

Well .jpgs are "lossy" meaning each time they're opened, they basically self destruct. They loose image information. Diet was right, .pngs are best, they dont seem to compress images or cause jpg distortion/noise at all. I love them to death! But I'd go with a gif for your avatar. Besides, that way if someone wants to steal and edit it, unless they have photoshop or PSP, it will be a tiny bit harder as they're only 256 colors, not the 16million like some other formats. Actually .pngs are sometimes smaller files than .gifs. Just beware the jpg/jpeg!!

ugh, I know too much lol something like that.
Hope that helped a tiny bit! ^,^

mine is 80x80 and isn't even 2kb in size. I sacrificed a bit of quality, but it's real easy to make these things under eight. Actually, I could probably remake this and save at top quality and hit eight quite nicely.

I'd love 100x100 things though, because that's the size I'm used to. MY MOTIVATIONS ARE SO DEEP

While we're on the subject of signatures, I'm curious why tickers aren't allowed in sigs?

Hey Heaven :)

They are too wide and stretch the posts causing sideways scrolling..

If we were using the board as just a board without the nav bar over to the side they would fit, but the way we have this setup they dont fit without distorting threads.

3. All sigs must be under 20KB and less than 400 px wide by 300 px tall, or 100 px tall and 500 pix wide.
I might be alone with my opinion, but I think 300 px of height is way too much. :? If there's just a few lines of text in a post, a 300 px high pic will almost double the space needed. I'd find that 100-150 px would be enough, and much better suited for this layout. Right now it feels like whatever thread I open, most of the time only about one third of the content visible on the screen at once is message text.

100px tall would be pretty extreme... that would pretty much eliminate people putting any adoptables or personas in their sigs, because the image would be shrunken down so far you couldn't see any detail. 150px MAYBE, but i seem to remember the actual limits being 300px wide and 180px tall. i think that other quote was from another forum's rules, for comparison.

i also have a question about moderators - i notice that each forum has different mods listed, but is a mod's power limited only to that forum? i.e. can bebear only mod the auctions forum or can she mod any forum and she's just dedicated to the auctions forum?
