G1 Basic Fun Retro Ponies: A Collector's Guide: CELESTIAL PONIES and 40th Anniversary

Ever since they renovated my nearest Target and changed all the aisles around, I can no longer find g1 ponies on the endcap aisles. They’re not stocked with the g4’s, either

I was just at my Target yesterday, I found some G1s at the end of the Isle (Seashell, Trickles, and the stable). I picked up Confetti and Tickle for myself. I'll see how my week shapes up for me, I'll try and hop back on over there on Wednesday or Friday (Teacher going into finals and just bought our first house AND trying to finish my dissertation :| )

The only G4s I saw were the Cutie Mark Crew Eggs/items.

Just passing along that someone reported that an eBay account in Florida that shares BasicFun's name bought a Fizzy...TE may be incoming.
No screenshots so consider it speculation but this gets me excited.

Have any Canadians gotten their hands on the new releases other than the originals, peachy and scented rainbows? We don't seem to be getting any of the other here in Vancouver and when I cross the border to Target, they have nothing either.

Perhaps we should make a thread to help each other find the ones we're looking for? :winkpony:

If anyone feels so inclined and wants to keep it organized, be my guest! <3
I'll work on it. :)

ETA: Are we looking for a generalized location thread or like a specific "I'm in [this location]. I found [this set] at [this store]," or "Where can I find [this set]?" May I use the links you have in the first post of this thread?

No!! If I do, you can rest assured I will text you and let you know. Or just grab two of everything. ;p

That would be awesome Skig, thank you! :) The furthest I really got thought-wise was a thread to match up people looking for ponies with people who found them and were willing to trade/sell at cost so they could find each other. And you may absolutely use anything in this thread you like! ;)

I wasn't going to mention this, because I didn't want people to get hyped in case they didn't release them, but I can confirm that Basic Fun has bought baby ponies (from the original set, like Baby Glory, Baby Blossom etc) off eBay before. :)

Anybody wonder if all these will decrease the value of the originals? Hmmmm............

Hopefully the Beanie Baby crash taught people not to treat toys as investments, ha ha! I would love it if kids and collectors could buy every single pony for a low price.

I agree, I remember being in high school working part time at a Hallmark store during the big Beanie Baby boom. People were nuts about those things and spent SO MUCH MONEY with the expectation of them retaining value. I remember one lady telling her daughter they would be her college fund
I never intend to sell but from the perspective of, say my house burns down, if values have dropped cause lots of people are happy with reissues vs originals will my insurance check still cover all I've invested. They don't really give you what you paid, they give you what it's valued at. Just something I've wondered about but yeah, the second they put out a TE Gingerbread I'm totally getting one :D

I found a Youtube video of someone on one of those home shopping network shows selling a lot of Beanie Babies for tens of thousands of dollars, it was sooo crazy! And also very funny the way they were hyping them up, like you would really be missing out if you didn't get Peanut the Elephant into your home.

I definitely get the gut-punch of "oh, I spent $XXX on it and now it's worth $XX," but really it's just a risk you have to take with toys. I paid $250 (each) for Nightlight and Raindrop when they were first "discovered", which back then was a fair price because there were, like, two collectors online from Germany so they were very uncommon. Same for Baby Hopscotch and Baby Cherries Jubilee. I paid hundreds for MOC Greek ponies, and then years later someone found an absolute hoard of MOC Greek ponies and their value dropped dramatically. Even without reissues in the mix, you never know!

I think to the true collectors the OG ponies will always retain value. Also the hoof stamps blah blah blah. But as G1 MLP gains (dumb) popularity thanks to media, we will probably see the value of our collections increase. At least for a few years. As always they seem to go up and down and as hype dies so will value. It’s the cold hard truth of any toy collector.

I get that! I shouldn't complain, I've been pretty pony lucky. The only thing I feel like I've ever really overpaid for was merchandise stuff, but I'm a sucker for merch, gets me everytime!

I've seen a few people complaining that the reissues are going to decrease interest/value in the originals. People saying they're so excited to get such and such because they don't have her or can't find a mint one. I get that, but these retro releases are a separate entity from G1 to me. I love them, but they're not taking the place of any G1 either already in or missing from my collection. That just seems silly to me. But to each her own.

@MustBeJewel , I started a thread. Let me know if this isn't what you had in mind.

As Skig said I don't think they'll devalue the original G1s. Honestly, I think they'll only add G1 collectors because I think people will search out the originals and value them even higher.
