Coping skills taking a vacation day.

I want to do my entire house in mermaid colors. I talked to R2 about it and he was like Yea that would be nice. All of the ocean blues with some purple, green and splash of gray here and there. There is a house in town where they did this and it has always been our favorite. Then I think I would prefer white distressed wood furniture. I am not sure what kind of style I like, but I also love 1930's Shabby too. So, I am all over the place. I like French Shabby a lot and could still use a more muted mermaid color scheme with that. I like Mexican tile also with the colors. So, I guess I don't have a defined set of decor that I have to have. I have an appreciate for Amish furniture as well. Both of us would love to have a Japanese style home too. There are two on our street and we love looking at them when we walk buy with Yuki.

Here it is before we moved the furniture back. The underflooring was damaged, so Hank and I had to rip out the old floor and replace it. Afterwards we put in nice new bamboo loc-it flooring. I love the dark wood because it's very pretty but it shows every hair my cats shed. And they shed SO MUCH.

It looks weird and wet in a few places of the blue because I had to go touch it up right before I took the pic. I'm going to be replacing the dark entertainment center with a light colored one that I intend to build later. Right now I'm building a deck, so it'll wait.

What a bummer you didn't get to do the apprenticeship! Any chances you'll ever get to do it or is that sort of thing time sensitive? And I'm nosy, what sort of style do you think best reflects your personality? I had a friend tell me that I was a Boho Chic sort of person, but I think I'm more of a Dumpster Diving Delight. :D

Long story short, I had a ten year break with my family that happened when I was 17 and that's when I would have started it. Also, not many people up here would be willing to pay for help, much less actual design.

Distressed just makes it look old because the paint is either rubbed off in places or other colors are used to create this unique look. I like it a lot.

In our city there are designers all over the place and they are way too expensive. You have to search for a designer that appreciates your style or you will not get what you want out of the designer. It's crazy the cost just to have one. My mother had one for her home. The lady she picked really didn't like everything my mother wanted and that caused some arguments. My mother is very traditional and dressy with how she decorates her home. She really enjoyed the Country decor that came out in the 90's. The designer felt they didn't go together and that caused issues. I did not ever like the country look at all. The traditional is okay, but I am more of a relaxed person and don't need that. Also it is best to have a degree in this now because, in the big cities most people will not hire you without it and it helps to have prior experience. Use to not be this way, but it really has become a field in its own right. I guess it can be quite lucrative if you go into modern and industrial or even art deco. It seems these are really hot right now. I can't really get into them. Art deco is too plain for me, I find it's lines predictable and non creative, lacking in color. Industrial just makes me feel like I am living in a chicken coop. LOL I can see why someone would like it, but it isn't for me. I don't want a broken sign on my wall that has been turned into a clock...all rusted and uky looking. Baaaaa Modern is okay, but I find the chrome and the black and white to be very lacking in creativity and cold to my inner spirit. It feels too futuristic and space like and not homey. I know I am weird. Industrial bookshelves for example. They are too open on the sides. One jump of a cat on those things and everything you have is going to fall to the floor in pieces.

Here is a good one on modern Art Deco

Here is what I love French Shabby which I feel I can pull my mermaid colors in and it has an antique feel to it, but it is soft, warm and comfortable to me.

And this is more what I am living in right now ROFLOL Just because we have thrown a bunch of stuff together that doesn't go together in our home. We have a lot of antiques though and if we had lots of moola we could really make the house a show place...but not. We buy ponies instead.

I just wish I could paint my room purple. I have the smallest room in the house and my mom still thinks it should be white. White walls so boring and she wonders why they are covered from floor to celling with posters or cut out or toys LOL.
For the record this is my room when I was little and I like small enclosed spaces. I have a mild fear of too open a area.

I would design for anyone for no cost. I've helped several people stage their homes to sell faster. It worked, too.

You know my adopted sister did that for a long time staging homes. Now she is a real estate agent. She was very good at it. You are right it does work.
