Hey everyone
So.. last year I started a project to restore a g1 Applejack from my childhood.

I got her body looking really good! But... I ordered the rehairing tool from online. I'm having trouble tightening the tool up. And.. one needle isnt cut at the end(?) It cant snag the plug of hair.

Please.. if anyone has a good rehairing tool... OR a perfect needle for rehairing G1 ponies.. please contact me!!

I have so many visions for custom ponies.. but I've hit a wall with rehairing

I read somewhere that to rehair MLP g1.. you need special needle(?)

thanks so much xoxo

So, for re-rooting a pony you need a size 7 needle and to cut the “eye hole” at an angle. The size of the needle is perfect for the “holes” in the pony’s mane.

In the Center of the picture above you can see my re-rooting tool and the bag of my size 7 needles.

I find it easier to work with slightly wet/damp hair (mainly so it sticks together better) and I spread it out on the pony’s head:

Then I take my tool and grab as much hair as I can and gently drag and push into the next plug hole.

Once at the hole, I push the needle all the to the base of my tool and twist the tool 180degrees and pull it out. This I find I have a lot less hair that come back out once Im pulling the tool out again.

Hopefully this helps you out some. @Cactusflower you may also find this helpful (I know it’s a little late but I’m a busy woman ;p )

I just use a doll needle from a craft store, lol. Knot the plug of hair in the middle and thread it through two plugs right next to each other, and call it a day. It takes longer but I don't like using glue. I'd imagine you can get the correct size needles from the same area.

@Skybreeze I love your method. If my tool wasn’t faulty, I’d have a better time. The needle will not stay. Any pressure and it backs up into the tool. I’ve tried tightening using a wrench and it still keeps happening. Also, I believe they sent me size 8 needles. I specified they were for pony rehairing. Also, I found that the cut prongs on my needle were bent, meaning I could only get a couple strands in at a time. As it turns out, my problems are faulty tools. I’ve contacted Dollyhair to see if she can do anything for me. This tool was $14US, so I expect it to work properly.

I think that's where I got mine from. It's a silver tool.

If your going to cut it yourself best to use some kind of wire cutter and you can pickup needles almost anywhere that sells sewing/crafting supplies near you.

Wire cutters? Got it! Thank you! And I'll see where I can get the size 7 needles
