Btw, Why is (Insert Pony) So Popular?

From what I can tell, there are two types of toy collectors- those who want to display and/or play with their stuff whenever they want, and those who want to live in a toy store. I'm personally the former myself, but I can kind of understand the latter. It's supposed to preserve them better, even when it doesn't. A lot of those people are looking to resell too, and the more stuff you have, like the unopened box, the more extra you can charge for it.

That is why I have the played with version and the moc version of surprise her bubble is yellowed but she is staying the way she is.

I do find sometimes it's interesting to have a newer version to compare to an older childhood version. I have two BBE baby Heartthrobs for this reason. So maybe that's another reason why someone would want a boxed version.

Here's one that confounds me. Why are moc/mib so desirable even if the packaging is damaged? Like a yellowed plastic bubble in particular, or when the pony (never opened) has cancer, mold, regrind, or other damage?

This bugs me, but I guess I understand the appeal to some. There's a MOC TAF Yum Yum on eBay right now with a high bid of $200+, and she has some kinda funk all over her face. Not for me, man, but not my money. One of my collection goals is to own my entire childhood collection MIP, but I've no interest in damaged packages/ponies. With that in mind, I may not ever accomplish that goal. But I can dream. :p

But on the positive side, you will have something to aim for even if your collection is “complete.” ;)

I personally like boxed or mip/mib items because I LOVE toy packaging. I love seeing the choice of design and artwork through the years. So for me, if I buy a pony new I tend to keep it in its packaging (or just keep the box condensed down). I would LOVE to get some G1 MOC someday but right now I’m not willing to pay $100+ for one when I have a lot of ponies I still need to add to my collection.

Without dreams life turns muted shades of grey.

I do buy some G4s every now and then and keep them in box, not because I care for it, but because I know other people do. A little investment for a few years down the road :p. Though I often get G4 ponies among other things for Toys for Tots around Christmas.

Ew!

That said, did you see that huge lot found in a storage unit? Insane.
I did. I threw in a few bids and was promptly outbid on all but one. By a bidder with a feedback score of one. Who's placed 63% of their bids on those auctions. I am currently winning one, but I don't look for that to last.

Why is Munchy so popular? I don't care for her colouring or symbols.

Why are the fancy mermaid ponies so popular? The front hooves don't even make sense.

Why is Ice Crystal so popular? I have one I'm restoring. He's handsome, but not even one of my favourite Mountain boys.

@Tak I completely agree about the MOC. I buy damaged MOC to OPEN them, otherwise, I don't really care about MOC because I like to open ponies.

Munchy was only a set completer to me. She's got very odd colors.
My girl likes the mermaids since they're pearlesent.
Ice crystal is ok. I like the mountain boys better than the big brothers, but I've never owned any. I would go for fireball or tornado first, too.

Ok I hate to say it but I fell for icey since I got him. something about his subdued coloring. :) Munchy is very odd with her colors too but I like that about her. I love pearly ponies its safe to say I just love ponies. I know why some can be popular but I dont think Merriweather gets much notice but I just love rainbows. :) I know MGR sparkler is very pretty with her colors. I also love ponies like Princess Moondust because yellow and pink are so spring like. I an collector back then but since I gave up my old childhood ponies I guess thats why I appreciate them more.

Why is is G3 Pinky Pie so popular? As in, why are there 20 different versions of her? Was she the main character in the G3 show or something?

Munchy is the quintessential junk food pony. :lolpony: That said, she's not my favorite TAF. I much prefer Nightglider, Buttons, and Yum Yum over her from that set of TAFs. I bought her over the summer at the SWPA Meet because an awesome friend gave me a great deal. Otherwise, I'd have been in no rush to pay the going rate.

According to Hasbro's "research," from what I remember of their explanation at the 2008 HQ tour, little girls like pink. :rolleyespony: I remember the uproar when the community found out the 2007 Fair exclusive was Pinkie Pie v. 8,653. She was a main character in the G3 specials. I remember another collector saying he adored her voice because she sounded drunk. :lolpony: She wasn't widely beloved in the community, but we weren't (and aren't) the target audience. I do much prefer her FiM personality and look, though. She's one of my faves.

Don't a real fan of some G1 MOCs, because, where can you display them! You can't sit them in a shelve!

I don't see me opening any of my Mexican G1s even with their really battered/damaged boxes/packing because there are really few of them to just open them up, there are amazing loose ones out there to just open mine =X

Interesting. All we need are evil selkie ponies and we're set XD

Btw, why is Sweet Scoops so stupidly expensive?
